WE BELIEVE LOVE HAS NO EXPIRATION DATE
North Amity Dog Rescue is a registered non-profit society on Vancouver Island BC dedicated to saving the lives of dogs in US, Canadian, and Mexican shelters that are at risk of being euthanized due to a lack of space and resources. We also help homeless dogs in northern Canadian communities in need of rescue and take in local surrenders for rehoming. All of
the dogs we take in are placed in preapproved foster homes on Vancouver Island before they are available for adoption. OUR POLICY AND PROCEDURES:
*First check out our website for available dogs. If you are interested in meeting one, click the "Adopt" button on their profile and fill out and submit the application form. We will review your application and see if your lifestyle matches the needs of the dog. If you seem well suited to each other, we will contact you by phone for an interview. If we mutually agree that you are potential match, we will arrange a virtual home check and a visit for you to come and meet the dog. Even if your application is successful, there is no guarantee you will automatically adopt the dog you have applied for. We do not adopt out dogs on a first come first served basis - we find the best matching home for each dog. You can contact us at any time for support and advice, or to return the dog, whether it has been days, weeks, months or years since you adopted your dog from us.
*Adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery with preanesthetic blood work, all vaccines, microchip and heartworm test for dogs that come from areas where heartworm is prevalent. Your new dog has also received broad-spectrum dewormer and flea prevention. All adoption fees collected are used to save more lives - vet fees for surgery, lab tests, radiographs and dental. There is also the ongoing cost for food, medications, dog supplies, grooming, transportation cost etc.
*We pride ourselves on our thorough behaviour and veterinary assessments that help us match each dog to the right person. We rehome to all different types of homes, It just depends on the needs of the individual dog.
*We will be honest, if we don't feel you are the right match for a particular dog. Please don't take this personally. We know how disappointing it can be to hear a dog won't be coming home with you. We will have made the decision knowing the dog’s needs and what’s best for them.
*Factors like a fenced yard, working hours, regular holidays, or other commitments, lack of dog or breed experience, your current pets, could mean your lifestyle isn’t the best fit for the dog. We would be doing a disservice to ourselves, the dog and to you if we rehomed a dog somewhere that we didn't see as their forever home. But this doesn’t mean we won’t have another dog in the future that could suit your family. NEED TO REHOME YOUR DOG? Please do not give away or sell online to people you do not know! We’re here to help. We will have your dog seen by our vet for anything it needs and then find it a home through a comprehensive adoption process, which includes a detailed application, interviews and home check. If you think you may need to give your dog up for adoption, please message us here or send an email to [email protected] We take in dogs for all sorts of reasons: from changes in accommodation and finances, to relationship breakdowns and family crises. Asking us for help is the most responsible thing you can do for your dog. We will do everything we can, but in some circumstances, we won’t be able to take a dog. If that’s the case, we’ll be honest with you about it. We'll always offer advice and help you make alternative arrangements if we can. We do not charge you any fee to surrender your dog - if you would like to donate to our work, we would be grateful, but it is not required. We started NADRS to become part of a growing movement to defend and speak for the defenseless and to educate and promote the importance of spaying and neutering animals to end their needless suffering and abandonment. Millions of unwanted healthy, adoptable pets are euthanized each year across North America simply because there are not enough committed homes in that community to provide them with love and care. By adopting a dog with a rescue organization or at a shelter, these numbers can be reduced by reducing the demand for puppy mills and backyard breeders to sell dogs. ALL of our dogs are spayed or neutered prior to adoption unless a dog’s heart is not strong enough to risk surgery. Our biggest hope is changing behaviour – the number of dogs needing homes is staggering – we all have to do something to make an impact! You can help save lives by simply ensuring that all of your pets are spayed and neutered and encourage your family and friends to join us in our efforts to end overpopulation. OUR CODE OF ETHICS
