Hello Old Friends volunteers! We need people to come AS SOON AS POSSIBLE and help unload hay from the horse trailer so we are ready in case an evacuation order is issued. Ten bails need to be put in the carport at the office and all the rest should be put in the barn. We need the trailer to be clear of the hay so we can move the horses when needed.

*Horses are known as non-rumiant herbivores
*Their bodies are designed to trickle feed, meaning they process small amounts of continously rather than eating large meals
*Because their bodies are constantly producing stomach acid they need constant access to food to maintain a healthy digestive system to prevent ulcers

Horses have amazing memories!
*they can remember people and other animals for decades
*horses have strong emotional memories. They can remember those who have treated them well
*because horses have such good long term memory, its hard to un-teach a fear or bad habit

This is why it is so crucial to keep positive reinforcement and build those lasting bonds.
