💜As we wrap up National Caregivers Awareness Month we encourage you to check-in with the caregivers in your life. Making the time to listen to how they're feeling and what they're navigation is a small act of compassion that goes a long way!💜

Canadian Mental Health Association speaks to The Invisible Load of Caregiving:

"Caregiving isn’t just one job. It’s being a nurse, a driver, a cook, a financial planner, a listener, and an advocate; sometimes all in one day. It’s balancing needs, managing uncertainty, and making constant decisions, often with little time or support.

Being a caregiver comes with responsibilities that can feel very heavy. There’s the emotional weight of worrying about someone you care about. The mental load of keeping track of everything. The physical toll of long days and stressful nights. And then there’s the part many don’t talk about: feeling like you have to hold it all together.

Caregivers often become experts at pushing through. They show up even when they’re tired. They keep going even when they feel stretched thin. But that kind of constant giving can come at a cost.

When someone depends on you, it can feel like there’s no room to pause. But without support, the risk of burnout is real. Stress builds. Exhaustion deepens. Mental health begins to suffer. And when that happens, it doesn’t just affect the caregiver; it also affects the person receiving care.

Caregiving is an act of compassion. It’s rooted in love, commitment, and connection. But caregivers need care, too." -. https://cmha.ca/news/the-invisible-load-of-caregiving/

Our Caregiver Support Programs are designed to help caregivers manage their responsibilities and make a little time for themselves. Let the caregivers in your life know that we are here to support them💐.

💙 See You Soon, Beyond The Bell 💙

A huge thank you to everyone who made our first year of Beyond The Bell possible — our youth, families, supporters, community partners, and especially Emma Birch, who created this program through Lake Country Health to support youth in our community.

From September to May, every Wednesday after school, Beyond The Bell brought youth together through fun activities across Lake Country and surrounding communities — creating opportunities to try new things, build confidence, make connections, and simply be themselves in a safe and encouraging space where youth could have fun, and feel connected 💙

Because this program is 100% FREE, it has been made possible through funding support from the Civil Forfeiture Grant Program: Crime Prevention Stream, along with the generosity of our local community.

That’s why our upcoming Helping Youth Thrive Fundraiser, happening this Friday, May 29 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM at Britannia Brewing Co., is so important. Events like this help us continue offering meaningful, accessible youth programs like Beyond The Bell and to create more opportunities to support for youth wellbeing.

We’re excited to be partnering with the YMCA to bring the Y Mind Teen program to Lake Country. This free program supports youth ages 13–18 who may be experiencing stress, worry, or mild to moderate anxiety by helping them build coping strategies, confidence, and connection in a safe and supportive environment. Through mindfulness practices and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)-based approaches, youth will gain practical tools to better navigate everyday challenges.

✨Caregiver's Virtual Chair Yoga✨

May is National Caregivers Awareness Month! In honour of this special month we'd like to acknowledge the effort, care, and compassion these individuals give so selflessly. If you are aware of friends and family who are acting as unpaid caregivers we hope you'll encourage them to connect with resources that support their journey, as well as, encourage them to make time for their own well-being.

This is potentially where our virtual chair yoga program comes in, this program is a free resource for unpaid caregivers of adults aged 55+. Caregivers participate from the comfort of their own home on a bi-weekly basis 🧘‍♂️🧘‍♀️.

Chair yoga incorporates mindful breathing and movement, which helps reduce stress, anxiety, and depression while promoting relaxation and mental clarity. It can also support psychological well-being during life transitions by improving mood and sleep quality. Practicing chair yoga in a group setting can foster social connection, and reduce feelings of isolation.

Chair yoga can increase flexibility and range of motion, allowing participants to bend, twist, and stretch safely while seated or using a chair for support. Chair yoga builds strength through exercises improving muscle tone and functional strength for daily activities. By strengthening stabilizing muscles, chair yoga can enhance balance and reduce the risk of falls.

Although we've all heard the oxygen mask analogy, there is a great deal of truth to it. We must take good care of our own well-being if we are banking on sustained capacity to care for others.

If you or the caregivers in your life are interested in this program please have them reach out to our coordinator, Bri. Her direct cell is, 250-306-2540, or you can send an email to, [email protected]

Lake Country, we need your voice. 💙

A short community health survey is open right now—and it’s one of the most important ways we can understand what our community truly needs.

At Lake Country Health, we see every day how gaps in services affect real people. This survey helps ensure future decisions are based on your lived experience, not assumptions.

✔ Takes just a few minutes
✔ Completely confidential
✔ Helps shape local health supports and services
