**LMS AGM, 13th January 2026. Eagles Hall 6 - 8.30

It's that time of year again. We need your support. We believe that LMS is a society that contributes to the community and enriches the lives of everyone who gets to know us. So, if you've let your membership lapse - now is the time to renew (you can do that at the AGM).
Here's a bit of a preview:

Over the last year, our brand new board, most of us with little to no history with LMS, stepped up to look after the 40 year legacy of LMS. We were like deer in the headlights to be honest. It was a bit chaotic, but meetings were great because Virginia, Dave's wife, made baked goods for us to have at the meetings. So that was good.
Linda did the minutes. She was quite fierce, because we all talk at once, but gradually we slowed down enough for her to create a really detailed record of all the stuff we've done over the year.
Linda took on the website too. Kim joined the Board, mainly because she loves Sea life, and she ended up being the "point person" for great partnerships on Thetis, and with the biologists who came again for Sea Life Festival.
John managed to get people to give us money and sold stuff so we had $$ in the bank. Nice.
Dave mainly grumbled that we wouldn't call the Car Shop, "the Boat Shop", but it turned out that he was really good at getting money too. So were Ernie and Dale. Dale nagged us about the Harbour Tours so much, that eventually we insisted he be on the Board, and take it on, so he'd stop annoying us. The car shop - er sorry, "boat shop" guys got the boats ready and in among all their hard work, managed to win ANOTHER AWARD!!! Way to go!
And our volunteers - so much hard work from Nadine, Linda, Debbie, Lynne, Tricia (sorry if I missed anyone) - these guys twisted arms and sweet-talked over 100 individuals and organizations to donate items for our silent auction.
Shirley looked after all our artifacts, and created a Christmas display in the Museum.
I did the boring admin stuff, but hey, someone has to do it right?
Want to know more? Want to know what's in our future? Come to the AGM, pay $20, and get involved. The future is bright and we want to share it with you and the community.

The Board, members and volunteers at Ladysmith Maritime Society are very sad to learn of the passing of Jack Bennett (seen in this picture on the far left wearing sunglasses). Jack was a committed member of LMS for many years, and was part of our award winning boat restoration team. He was a larger than life character, and a kind and generous man who will be much missed by all his friends at LMS and in the community.
