The Royal Canadian Legion Lacombe Branch #79 launched its annual Poppy Campaign on October 23rd, with Poppy Campaign Committee representatives Rick Grinham and Lacombe City Councillor Chris Contenti presenting the first poppies to Mayor Thalia Hibbs, Lacombe County Deputy Reeve Dwayne West, and Town of Blackfalds Councillor Cory Twerdoclib at Lacombe City Hall.
βIt is my honour to accept this first poppy as the official launch of the 2026 Lacombe Legion Poppy Campaign,β said Mayor Hibbs. βThe poppy serves as a symbol of remembrance and gratitude for the Canadians who served and sacrificed on our behalf. As Remembrance Day approaches, I encourage residents to support our local Legion by purchasing a poppy and taking a moment to reflect on the sacrifices that have helped shape our country and community.β
Poppies are available throughout the community and are distributed free of charge, with donations to the Poppy Fund encouraged in support of veterans and their families.
Funds raised through the campaign remain in the community and help support local veterans, their families, and Legion initiatives that promote remembrance and provide assistance to those who have served.
