Season 2026 is officially underway!๐Ÿ˜
Seeding was happening today courtesy of local farmers and we canโ€™t wait to see our peas poking out of the ground soon ๐ŸŒฑ

If youโ€™d like to check out our field this year once the crop gets growing, here are the directions to find it:
From the Blackfalds overpass on Highway 2, go west on Aspelund Road about two miles to Range Road 27-5 and turn north. Go 1/2 mile and it is on the east side.

Thank you to Leanne Longshore for snapping some pics of the action!

It may not feel very spring-like today, but the 2026 seeding season is coming soon! Behind the scenes, there has been lots of planning for Year 31 and we are very pleased to announce we will be seeding an 136 acre field west of Blackfalds.

We are also excited to share we are switching up the crop this year and will be trying our hand at yellow peas!

Our wonderful directors have done a great job of lining up seed, fertilizer, products, and volunteers for the coming season and we will continue to share these updates as the season progresses.

Our big blue sign will be going up soon so be on the lookout ๐Ÿ‘€ and we will share more once itโ€™s up.

Saturday, September 27th was a beautiful day to ring in our 30th season of the Central AB Foodgrains Growing Project!!

We were very happy to be joined by many members of the community to watch our 72 acres of canola be brought in by 6 combines (including a classic Gleaner and New Holland) and two semis courtesy of Vision Truck Lines.

The field averaged around 40.5 bushels/acre which raised a total of $37,353.46. We were fortunate to receive $860 in donations on the harvest day as well as Richardson Pioneer informed us of a very generous crop donation from a Lacombe County farmer for $18,234.24. This brings our total for our 30th year to $56,447.70!!

A huge thank you goes out to all the combine operators for providing their time and equipment to take off the harvest! Another big shout out to all of the volunteers over the season for their contributions and thank you to the community for joining us and showing your support!

We would also like to give thanks to Decisive Farming by Telus Agriculture for the wonderful lunch and Gem Silage for drinks and extra provisions!
As well, thank you to Parrish & Heimbecker, Limited in Joffre and Rebecca with Farm Credit Canada for coffee and donuts!

With 30 years of this project in the rear view, we feel exceptionally grateful to be able to celebrate another successful season and another year of contributing towards ending global hunger. Thank you again to the incredible Central AB community for supporting this endeavour and we canโ€™t wait to see everyone again next year!

Harvest day is here! Looking forward to seeing everyone out there!
