🎓 Félicitations to Our Fast Track French Graduates! 🎓

On Wednesday, June 17, we proudly gathered for our Fast Track French Graduation Ceremony to celebrate the accomplishments, dedication, and growth of our participants throughout the year.

This innovative program was made possible through the generous funding and support of the Grace Dart Fondation Grace Dart / Grace Dart Foundation, whose commitment to lifelong learning and community engagement has helped participants build practical French language skills, confidence, independence, and stronger connections within their communities.

Over the past year, participants learned French through real-life situations and everyday interactions. From ordering meals in French and asking for directions to attending appointments and engaging in conversations with Francophone community members, learners gained valuable skills they could immediately apply in their daily lives.

With 23 participants enrolled and an average attendance of 19 participants throughout the year, the commitment and enthusiasm of this group has been truly inspiring. Their success is reflected not only in the classroom but in the many stories shared throughout the year of confidently using French in real-world situations.

We were honoured to welcome Jennifer from the Grace Dart Fondation Grace Dart / Grace Dart Foundationto our Graduation Ceremony and to share the incredible impact their support has had on our participants. Thanks to the Foundation's generosity, learners have had the opportunity to strengthen their language skills, build confidence, foster meaningful relationships, and become more connected to life in Quebec.

The Grace Dart Fondation Grace Dart / Grace Dart Foundation is a non-profit organization which supports community-based initiatives serving older adults in the Greater Montreal Area. Through its targeted donations, it helps build a warm and personal environment for the well-being of the elderly, in line with five areas of giving: Basic Needs, Loneliness & Isolation, Socialization & Personal Development, Cognitive Disorders, and Living Environment.

In 2025-2026, the Grace Dart Foundation donated more than $2.55 Million to 58 initiatives with non-profit organizations in the Greater Montreal Area. Donations to the Foundation help support grassroots and forward-thinking organizations to develop new and innovative approaches to improving the quality of life of older adults.

To all of our graduates, congratulations on an outstanding achievement. Your perseverance, courage, and willingness to embrace new challenges have been inspiring to witness. We are incredibly proud of everything you have accomplished and look forward to seeing where your French journey takes you next.

👏 Congratulations, graduates, and thank you to the Grace Dart Foundation for making this program possible!

Summer heat can be dangerous, especially if you're taking certain medications.

Many common prescription and over-the-counter medications can increase sensitivity to heat and raise the risk of heat-related illness. As temperatures rise, it's important to know what to watch for and how to stay safe.

Take a few minutes to learn more and share this information with family, friends, and caregivers.

🌟 Nos sincères remerciements à Mme Anju Dhillon

We are deeply grateful to Ms. Anju Dhillon for joining us in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the LaSalle D&D 50+ Centre and for her beautiful message honouring our mission and our community.

Her recognition means so much to our members, volunteers, Board, and staff. For the past decade, our centre has been dedicated to supporting older adults through wellness, social, and recreational programs that reduce isolation, strengthen community connections, and enhance quality of life. Knowing that our work is seen and valued at the federal level is truly meaningful.

Thank you, Ms. Dhillon, for your presence, your encouragement, and your ongoing support of seniors in LaSalle.
Here’s to many more years of growth, connection, and community.

🌟 Member Feedback Drop Box Initiative

During our last town hall meeting, members expressed a strong desire for an easy, open, and welcoming way to share their ideas for programs, workshops, activities, and any other suggestions that could help shape the future of our centre. In response to this request, our team developed a Member Feedback Drop Box, which will officially begin at the start of our Summer Home season and will remain a permanent feature of the LaSalle D&D 50+ Centre.

The drop box is designed to be simple, accessible, and judgment‑free. When members arrive at the centre, they will be informed of its location, and the box will always be stocked with paper and pens. Members are encouraged to write down any idea — big or small, simple or ambitious. All ideas are accepted, and no idea is ever considered “stupid.” Every suggestion is valued because it reflects the voice of our community.

This initiative also supports the principles of Therapeutic Recreation. Member choice, autonomy, and self‑expression are essential components of TR practice. By offering a space where individuals can share their ideas freely, we are promoting empowerment, creativity, and meaningful engagement — all of which contribute to emotional, social, and cognitive wellbeing. The drop box allows members to actively shape their leisure environment, reinforcing that their experiences, interests, and goals matter.

As Activity Coordinator and Centre Coordinator, Alex and I will review the submissions regularly. Together, we will look at each idea realistically and thoughtfully, considering questions such as:

Can we make this happen with the time and resources we have

Is there funding available, or can we combine ideas to create something new

Can this idea be integrated into existing programs

Does it support member needs, interests, and engagement

Our goal is to bring as many member ideas to life as possible while balancing feasibility, scheduling, and budget. This initiative ensures that members remain at the heart of our planning and that their creativity continues to guide the evolution of our centre.

The Member Feedback Drop Box represents our commitment to openness, collaboration, and community‑driven programming. It is a space where every voice matters and where every suggestion has the potential to grow into something meaningful.
