October is Disability Employment Awareness Month (DEAM), a time to celebrate inclusive employment and recognize the skills, perspectives, and talents people experiencing disability bring to workplaces and communities across Saskatchewan.

This year’s Canadian theme, “Skills Grow Economies. Disability Inclusion Fuels the Growth.” reminds us that inclusive employment is good for people, workplaces, communities, and our economy.
At SaskAbilities, Partners in Employment works with individuals and employers to create connections, recognize strengths, and build opportunities for meaningful employment.

Throughout October, we’ll be sharing stories, employer perspectives, and activities from across the province that highlight inclusive employment in action.

Because when people have opportunities to contribute their skills and talents, workplaces and communities grow stronger.

Employers - We are looking for Work Placement Opportunities!

The Gary Tinker Federation for the Disabled Inc. (GTF) is currently looking for employers throughout Northern Saskatchewan who are willing to provide Training on the Job (TOJ) opportunities for adults with disabilities.

A work placement can give an individual the opportunity to:
✅ Develop new workplace skills
✅ Build confidence and independence
✅ Explore their abilities and interests
✅ Gain experience that can lead to future employment

What’s in it for employers?
GTF will provide wage subsidy funding to help support Training on the Job placements. We work with employers throughout the process to help develop a suitable placement and provide ongoing support. You may have a position in your workplace that could be a great fit for someone looking to gain experience. The disability may not be visible, and individuals can self-declare a disability to access eligible GTF services.

Minister Hajdu has announced that starting next week, Canada Disability Benefit recipients will receive a lump sum payment of $150 to help offset the cost associated with obtaining a disability tax credit.

There is no need to apply for this payment – if you have received the benefit, you will get the payment automatically.
