Kitimat Youth Highlight: Troy LR Ross

Troy is an incredibly talented youth in our community and someone who volunteered their time to support the Youth of Kitimat.

With over 15,000 followers across social media, his craft, passion, and attention to quality really shines. Troy’s art rocks!

Hear from him below:

1: My talent would have to be puppetry, Puppet Making and being a voice actor.

2: I would have to say I’m proud of some of the people I’ve inspired through my work of being a puppeteer

3: I actually started original through my Mother and my Gran for getting me started on sewing, then I started to go online and then that’s when puppet making got me interested!

4: To the young artists of Kitimat:

You may sometimes feel like being from a small town means your dreams have to be small too.

They don’t.

You can be an artist, a musician, an actor, an animator, a filmmaker, a writer, a puppeteer — whatever you dream of becoming.

You don’t need to come from a big city to create something big. Every great artist started somewhere, and sometimes that “somewhere” is a small community just like Kitimat.

You might not have the best equipment. You might not have thousands of followers. You might even have people tell you that your dream isn’t realistic.

Create anyway.

Draw the picture. Write the story. Make the puppet. Record the song. Step onto the stage. Make something that only you could make.
Because your creativity has value.
And someday, another young person from Kitimat might see what you created and think, “If they could do it, maybe I can too.”

So don’t be afraid to dream beyond our mountains.

Let Kitimat be where your story begins — not where your dreams end.
