We had the honour of speaking at a roundtable at the Senate of Canada, organized by Human Concern International (HCI), alongside Senator Salma and Members of Parliament Sameer Zuberi and Salma Zahid who recently visited the Rohingya camps in Bangladesh.

We shared the realities our community continues to face, and called on Canada to move from solidarity to action — through sustained funding, accountability at the international level, expanded resettlement pathways and ease on asylum seekers.

The conversation was meaningful, and the commitment in the room was real. We are deeply grateful to HCI, the MPs, and Senator who not only visited the camps but are now standing with us to push for concrete change.

A hopeful moment — and we will keep working until that hope reaches the Rohingya still waiting for justice and dignity. 🙏

Thanks to Bangladesh High Commissioner to Canada, Justice for All Canada, MSF, Red Cross, UNHCR, Oxfam, Humanti and all for your wonderful remarks and support.

This month’s Peer Health Program is all about supporting wellbeing in simple, everyday ways. 🌿🎨

We started the May sessions with a picnic and outdoor painting activity, where participants had the chance to spend time outside, relax, and connect with one another.

It was a calm and creative session focused on taking a break, enjoying fresh air, and using art as a way to support mental wellbeing.

We were pleased to welcome the director of Waterloo Region District School Board, ‘Scott Miller’ to the Rohingya Centre for a meaningful discussion on strengthening collaboration to support the educational growth and success of Rohingya children, especially newcomer students.

We discussed ways to work together in creating inclusive learning opportunities, improving access to educational support, and expanding extracurricular programs in the summer for children and youth to help them thrive both inside and outside the classroom.

Thank you, Scott Miller, for your visit and support.

Over two engaging days, our team from the Rohingya Centre participated in a dynamic learning experience focused on strengthening nonprofit practices. The first day highlighted the importance of thoughtful data collection and building structured systems, brought to life through an interactive and hands-on activity facilitated by Open North.

On the second day, the focus shifted to impactful storytelling. Through collaborative team exercises, we explored creative and effective ways to communicate our work and demonstrate the impact of our organization.

We extend our sincere thanks to Upstream for organizing such an insightful and enriching program.
