Waterloo Wellington Children's Groundwater Festival

Waterloo Wellington Children's Groundwater Festival To encourage children to become catalysts for change by taking information and new found respect back to their own environment.

WWCGF is all about empowering kids to make changes in their homes, schools and communities that will help protect our water now and keep it safe and clean for generations to come. The goals of CWEC are:

The final day of the 2026 WWCGF has come and gone. We’re so grateful to the hundreds of volunteers, thousands of students, teachers and parents, donors and partners who took part in this year’s festival. We’re so excited to carry on this momentum as we plan our 2027 Festival.

Adam Kasper, a teacher at Eastwood Collegiate in Kitchener, volunteered at the festival 30 years ago! As we celebrate 30 years of hands-on learning in Waterloo and Wellington, he reflects on his time with the Festival. Thank you, Adam, for your ongoing dedication to groundwater education!

Our Water Angel program helps make it possible for one classroom to attend the Festival each year at no cost. This year, generously supported students from John Galt Public School .

Pictured are thank you letters from Grade 4 and 5 students at John Galt Public School, who attended the Festival today.

MTE’s support helps reduce barriers to environmental and water education for students across Guelph, Wellington County, and the Region of Waterloo — creating opportunities for more young people to connect with groundwater, sustainability, and their local environment.

Thank you to MTE for your continued commitment to groundwater education and community learning.

What a day! Festival supporters, partners, and donors – including local councillors and staff – visited the Festival for VIP Day to see groundwater education in action. Guests had the opportunity to tour activity centres, connect with volunteers and educators, and experience firsthand the engaging and hands-on learning that students have been taking part in all week. Thank you to everyone who continues to support the Festival and help make these experiences possible for local students.

Day 3 brought the sun and heat, but also so many engaging learning opportunities, new vocabulary words, and lots of excited questions about what’s happening beneath the ground we walk on every day.
See you all tomorrow for our VIP day!

Day 2 has come and gone and we’re still trying to process all the new groundwater info we learned today, from keeping our septic systems healthy and running to how water moves through the ground. Thank you to our incredible and engaging activity centre volunteers who share their knowledge and passion with the students.
