We are a group of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals who work in different countries and communities to develop mental health services. Our mission is to educate; reduce stigma; and provide equitable, sustainable and accessible mental health services in support of recovery. Our current work is in Guyana, b
ut moving forward, we would like to expand to other countries around the world. Since 2013, groups of multidisciplinary healthcare professionals have travelled to Guyana to work to develop mental health services. Work from these trips includes:
- developing shared care services between primary health and mental health services;
- bringing more treatment alternatives (e.g. electroconvulsive therapy [ECT] program);
- assisting the development of psychiatric care facilities in urban and rural areas, including establishing a new ECT program (an evidenced-based biological treatment for severe depression);
- assisting ongoing education of medical students, residents, family physicians, psychiatrists; as well as other disciplines, including nurses, social workers, hospital security and police.
- assisting in the creation of a National Su***de Prevention Strategy;
- assisting to develop a civil society network to support long-term mental health care improvements;
- assisting to create opportunities for the empowerment and sustainability of long-term mental health care development in countries requesting need.
