As always, we welcome and appreciate your donations and hope you’ll swing by one of your locations to borrow a good read. ♥️📚

I’m a full time teacher and have two kiddos and it’s hard finding dedicated time for the libraries during the school year. Summer is where it’s at — I’m off work with room to breathe and get inspired. This was an awesome summer for our libraries, thanks to all of you! Read all about it ⬆️☀️💛

Special delivery today from Toronto-based small publisher .bookshelf! 🥳 Thanks to funds donated during our June book drive, we were able to order 12 copies of this beautiful children’s book, My Garden Over Gaza — one for each Little Free Diverse Library. Thank you to Asmaa for the bulk discount and to those of you who make ordering books like this possible via donation. And thanks, too, to the wonderful for introducing me to .bookshelf a few years back. I’m always happy to support them with book orders. 🇵🇸🍉

Just a head’s up that we have a new URL for our website. Wix decided to double the annual price to have a custom URL and I ain’t here for it. Our website is really just a very simple landing page with basic info about the project. Most of what gets updated, news, etc. is right here on IG. Our new URL is lame and not Google-friendly but it’s free. 😀 Link in bio has been updated! We’ll see how it goes!

Forty five books donated from the magically generous and kind , the loveliest human who follows along with what we do and always wants to pitch in. We have never even met IRL! She just casually DMed that she had some books for me and I found two bags on my porch filled with FORTY FIVE awesome books that I know she dug for in thrift shops. And a birthday card with a sweet message and coffee money in it! 🥹Emily, THANK YOU! 😇This brings our Pride Month total to 164 which has us past our goal of 130. 🥳 So grateful! Yay!

It’s June book drive time and we’d love your support! Please like and share to help spread the word! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️📚

This perfect picture by deserves a spot on the grid! Thanks to for highlighting KW Little Free Diverse Libraries on their blog. I’m always happy to talk to folks about the neighbourhood matching grant that helped our project come to life. If you want to know more, reach out — I’m always happy to chat about my experience! Neighbourhood projects can be small or sweeping. The money is there to be taken advantage of — and it helps build community. And guys: we neeeeeeed community right now. As I recently told my teenager, who is overwhelmed by the state of the world these days (and who isn’t): we have got to think local. What can we do to make our communities better, safer for all, more loving and connected? Small and meaningful acts and projects are wonderful and they DO make a difference.

🥳🥳🥳 Little Free Diverse Library # 11 has arrived in her new home! 🥳🥳🥳

After three years in Belmont Village, this big beauty is settling into a new neighbourhood just a couple of kms away — at 132 Ahrens St. W. (corner of Wellington), the home of the fantabulous !

They’ve got a whole thing going on here — a beautiful new mural by and a new neighbour () comin’ in hot. Come by, donate/add or borrow books by Black, Indigenous, racialized, 2SLGBTQ+ or disabled authors, soak up the ☀️, eat treats, drink coffee and marvel at Brie’s mural! It’s a whole amazing Midtown vibe!

Huge thanks to Lenore at for being our new bookwormy steward and big ups to Susie and George at for putting so many hours and so much TLC into the library at the Belmont location. So grateful for community and collaboration and working together to make KW magical!

Our libraries thrive when everyone looks out for them and gives them love. Borrow and return books, add books, and help us w**d out what doesn’t belong. Let’s work together to make this big library a success in her new home! Thanks KW! 📚♥️

To celebrate our Pride Month Book Drive, we’ve asked members of the local 2SLGBTQIA+ community to recommend a read for our libraries — and for all of you, too!

Today’s pick is from Ren Navarro. Ren is the founder of , a consulting agency that works to address the lack of diversity in various industries. Ren has done a ton of work in the beer world and if you haven’t given her a follow already, ya should. Her pick is Orlando by Virginia Woolf.

“It’s a trans love story that spans hundreds of years,” Ren explains. “The reader is introduced to Orlando, a young adventurous man, who one morning wakes up as a woman. Her life changes slightly, but she’s able to make the most of it as she then goes on to live hundreds of years, doing fantastic things.

In reality, Woolf based the protagonist on her lover, Vita Sackville-West, a woman who lived an adventurous life. This novel is a celebration of a life well lived. Making it a fairly easy pick!”

Ren, thank you! You’ve been such a kind supporter of this project since the beginning. Keep making the world a better place! We love you for it!

To celebrate our Pride Month Book Drive, we’ve asked members of the local 2SLGBTQIA+ community to recommend a read for our libraries — and for all of you, too!

Today’s pick is from Shel Secrett, an RECE for 22 years. Shel worked at Emmanuel at Brighton Child Care Centre for 16 years and recently
started a new position as a pedagogical leader with the County of Wellington, mentoring early childhood educators. Shel also presents workshops across Ontario and Manitoba on 2SLGBTQAI inclusion. Shel’s book pick is True You - A Gender Journey.

“I think it’s a perfect book to read a couple pages at a time because it’s filled with so many ways of expressing gender and info about gender identity! I used the book as something to return to often. I’d hold it up and say something like, ‘Remember when me met a kid in this book who doesn’t feel like a girl AND doesn’t feel like a boy?! They identify as non-binary! Cool!’ Then I enthusiastically say, ‘Who wants to meet another kid?’ Every time the book comes out, we talk about a couple kids we already met and then read about someone new. I talk about all colours, clothes and toys being for everyone!
I display this book for parents to see!

I strongly believe that all children and families in the 2SLGBTQAI community should see a reflection of themselves in early learning environments.”

Thank you, Shel! So grateful for you and the very important work you do with our littles and their caregivers!

To celebrate our Pride Month Book Drive, we’ve asked members of the local 2SLGBTQIA+ community to recommend a read for our libraries — and for all of you, too!

First up in the series is Aashay Dalvii. Aashay is the anti-racism consultant for SPECTRUM Waterloo Region and the founder of Rad Riot Books. They have previously spoken about q***r-affirming and anti-colonial literature at the University of Waterloo, the GSA Conference, TriPride, Kitchener Public Library, and more across Waterloo Region.

Aashay’s pick is When We Were Sisters by Fatimah Asghar, the story of three orphaned siblings who are left to raise themselves and each another after their parents die. At the same time, the youngest, Kausar, is charting her own understanding of gender.

Aashay’s work is guided by the understanding that decolonising one’s own perspective begins with seeking out and embracing voices that challenge the status quo. Frequently, narratives from q***r, racialized, and non-Eurocentric immigrant voices are sidelined or misrepresented in mainstream media, despite providing invaluable insight into the larger colonial systems that perpetuate inequities within our community. Rad Riot Books was started with the purpose of challenging imperialism and settler colonialism by providing a safe space where q***r and racialized newcomers as well as curious members of the community could feel empowered to explore these ideas in diverse and anti-racist book selections.

We appreciate your recommendation, Aashay!
