AWAWR was honoured to attend the inaugural Black Swan Conference, hosted by focused on bridging the resource gap for minority entrepreneurs.

It was an insightful and rewarding opportunity for our Executive Director, Fadhilah Balogun, to engage in conversation with the Honourable .valdez, Minister of Women and Gender Equality and Secretary of State (Small Business and Tourism), on empowering and supporting small businesses within our communities.

From the inspiring keynote speeches to the engaging panel discussions and networking sessions, it was encouraging to witness the wealth of resources, connections, and opportunities available to minority entrepreneurs across the region.

At AWAWR, supporting entrepreneurship and economic empowerment remains an important part of our work through the Sapphire Entrepreneurship Excellence Program (SEEP), a culturally responsive entrepreneurship training initiative that equips women, youth, and newcomers with practical business skills, mentorship, and confidence to grow sustainable businesses.

A huge thank you to and the entire ThruTalent Training Corp. team for organizing such a meaningful and impactful conference.

Shout out to the amazing AWAWR team .oluwaponmile, , Ifeoluwa Fasooto, and Ololade Olagbemiro for representing our organization and continuing to build connections that strengthen our community.

Happy Black History Month!

This Black History Month, the African Women’s Alliance of Waterloo Region celebrates the strength, resilience, and leadership of African women and families in our community.

Through our ongoing programs, we create spaces where women can connect, heal, learn, and grow together:

✔️Yetu Chai (Our Tea) Circle, a peer learning space rooted in shared stories, reflection, and community wisdom.

✔️Advocate Yourself-supporting self-advocacy, equity, and confidence through guided learning and dialogue.

✔️Community Healing & Solutions Roundtable – a safe space for healing, connection, and solution-focused conversations grounded in collective care.

These programs are part of how we honour Black history, by investing in community care, leadership, and healing that continues beyond this month.
