🌻 SERVICE ABOVE SELF — THANK YOU, ROTARY! ❤️

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Rotary Club of Kirkland Lake for their generous $1,000 donation to the Kirkland Lake Terry Fox Run in support of cancer research.

As stated by Rotary Club of Kirkland Lake President Dixitkumar Patel:

“We are proud to support the incredible legacy of Terry Fox and the ongoing efforts to advance cancer research. We believe that supporting causes that bring hope, improve lives, and strengthen our community reflects the very spirit of Rotary.”

President Patel also recognized the many Rotary members and volunteers who work throughout the year to support local youth, community initiatives and other non-profit organizations — making this donation possible through their continued dedication, generosity and commitment to Service Above Self.

“Service Above Self means turning compassion into action and working together to create lasting positive change in our community and beyond.”

These beliefs resonate for us here at the Terry Fox Run and feels especially fitting when we think about Terry Fox.

Terry turned his own compassion and determination into action, inspiring people across Canada and around the world to come together in the fight against cancer. His legacy continues because people continue to turn compassion into action.

That same spirit is alive right here in Kirkland Lake.

❤️🌻 AND MOST OF ALL… THANK YOU TO OUR INCREDIBLE VOLUNTEERS! 🌻❤️

An event like the Kirkland Lake Terry Fox Run simply could not happen without volunteers.

A huge THANK YOU to Kristal, Aaron, Gabriele and Lucas for hauling and setting up lawn signs throughout town, putting up and taking down our KM route signs, bringing tables, chairs and the BBQ, and helping with so many of the behind-the-scenes jobs.

Thank you to Gabriele and Lucas and members of their hockey team for helping place the pinwheels around the walkway. 🌻

Those pinwheels represent love, remembrance and hope — placed in memory or in honour of loved ones.

Thank you to Hailey for helping with the sale of TShirts and pinwheels and helping with so many details and also for taking pictures throughout the day! They helped us capture so much of the community spirit!

Thank you Isabela for helping with colouring and face painting, and to Isabela and Kristal for helping Jeremy with the BBQ.

We are grateful to the volunteers from Alamos, Agnico Eagle, RMAD, Blanche River Health/Blanche River Health Foundation and the Kirkland Lake Lions Club, as well as Chris, Izzy and Isabela for helping with the Tragically Hip event.

Thank you to Brennan, our summer student, for all of her work leading up to Run Day. Including her assistance to the organizers for the many details and community involvement.

And a very special thank you to Julia and Pat, who organized the 2026 Kirkland Lake Terry Fox Run and our first Silent Auction. From planning and coordinating, social media and promotion, organizing volunteers, gathering and moving materials, setup and takedown, and all the countless details that happen behind the scenes — they were there doing whatever needed to be done!

There is simply too much to list because so much happens behind the scenes.

Every hour given mattered. Every helping hand mattered.

🦁❤️ WOW… KIRKLAND LAKE LIONS CLUB! ❤️🦁

What can we say?

This year brought a FIRST for our Kirkland Lake Terry Fox Run — the Lions Club Pancake & Sausage Breakfast! 🥞🌭

The Lions Club provided the supplies, brought and set up tables and chairs, provided games, brought out their cotton candy machine, helped with our balloon arch and had an amazing group of volunteers working throughout the day.

And, of course, the breakfast was a wonderful way to start Run Day — with all proceeds going toward our Terry Fox Run.

A very special THANK YOU to Shanea for collaborating with us and helping get all of this in motion.

And to every one of the Lions Club volunteers who came out to help — THANK YOU! ❤️

The Lions Club’s support doesn’t happen just once a year. Their continued support and assistance with organization is one of the things that helps our Terry Fox Run continue to grow.

The Government of Canada announced an $80-million investment in the next phase of the Marathon of Hope Cancer Centres Network.

With matching funds from the Terry Fox Foundation and other institutions, this investment could unlock a total of $160M.

Six years ago, MOHCCN set out to do something unprecedented: unite cancer centres and research institutions across the country around a common strategy for precision oncology.

More than 1,300 researchers, clinicians, administrators, and patients came together to make that happen.

Now we’re putting that collaboration to work for patients.

Over the next four years, the Network will expand access to precision oncology, delivering genomic insights that will inform the care of at least 11,000 new patients.

“Canada has been at the forefront of the fight against cancer for decades. This collaboration between Canadian cancer centres in research and treatment, led by the Terry Fox Research Institute, is promising and inspiring. Hard work is paying off, and we need to keep putting our resources into fighting this disease,” said the Honourable Marjorie Michel, Minister of Health.

We’re getting closer to finishing what Terry started, but there’s more to do. The next phase starts today.

🏫🌻 A PLACE TO WORK BEHIND THE SCENES 🌻

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Northeastern Catholic District School Board and St. Jerome School for allowing us to use their office and storage space throughout the summer as we prepared for the Kirkland Lake Terry Fox Run.

Having a place to work, organize materials and safely store everything we needed made a real difference.

So much of what goes into a community event happens long before Run Day — and having this space helped us stay organized while we worked toward September 20.

🎬❤️ COMMUNITY PARTNERS MAKING IT HAPPEN! ❤️🎬

We want to recognize two organizations that helped make our Tragically Hip screening event; that was held in August; possible.

A heartfelt THANK YOU to the Kirkland Lake Multicultural Centre for providing the facility for our event.

And thank you to the District School Board Ontario North East (DSBONE) and KLDCS for providing the equipment we needed.

We also want to recognize Christopher, Lizzy and Isabela for their help with the event.

Community events like this don’t happen without organizations willing to share their facilities and resources — and people willing to give their time.

A huge THANK YOU to Rhythm & Motion Dance — RMAD for providing such a fantastic warm-up before our send-off.

We were also thrilled that RMAD entered a team and joined us in supporting Terry Fox and cancer research.

A special thank you to Alison for helping get everything arranged, and to Sabrina and the RMAD team for leading the warm-up and bringing so much energy to Civic Park!

🩺❤️ A HEARTFELT THANK YOU TO BLANCHE RIVER HEALTH & THE BLANCHE RIVER HEALTH FOUNDATION!

Blanche River Health and the Blanche River Health Foundation were an important part of Run Day, providing our First Aid & Self-Care Station and helping make sure our participants had somewhere to go if they needed assistance.

We are also so grateful to the staff and board members who volunteered their time to be part of the day.

A very special THANK YOU to Cassie for getting everything arranged and for helping us in so many ways throughout our Terry Fox Run efforts.

Having our local health-care community standing beside us made the day even more meaningful.
