Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association We are a watershed group that manages the Bedeque Bay Watershed and surrounding areas.

The Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association (BBEMA) is a not-for-profit charitable organization - the overall organizational goal is “to provide citizen-based education opportunities and direction for citizens of the area to conserve and enhance their environment through planning, education, partnerships and projects”. Supporting community action environmental innitiatives that medigate climate change, maintained water quality and improved the ecosystem biodiversity.

With Ocean Week just around the corner, we thought we would showcase some of the ocean fauna you might find during our seine net demonstration at the Linkletter Provincial Park! This exciting public event will give you an up-close look at many of the creatures living just steps beyond the ocean’s shore.

Come learn and explore Linkletter Provincial Park's biodiversity on June 5 from 5-8 pm. We can't wait to see you there!

Last week, we had the pleasure of hosting a Youth Stream Stewardship day with several different activities at our Heritage Ice Pond. Streams were assessed, macros were identified, and nature walks were had! 🌳😊

Join us for an evening of ocean exploration with hands-on activities letting you explore the wonders of the sea!

This all-ages event invites you to take part in a variety of activities including:
🐟Seine net surveys: Get an up-close look at many of the creatures living just steps beyond the ocean’s shore
🐚Benthic invertebrate sampling: Want to see what lives below the sand? Help collect, sort and identify samples to uncover their identities.
🌊Eelgrass monitoring: Assist in surveying the health of an eelgrass bed and learn more about these crucial marine nursery habitats.

Together we will also complete the final stretch of our Ocean Week shoreline cleanup.

Come learn and explore Linkletter Provincial Park on June 5 from 5-8 pm!

Wildlife Field Technician

May 25 - August 28
37.5 hrs per week
Salary Amount: $18.72/hr. (inclusive of vacation pay)

Assist BBEMA Environmental Projects Coordinator and Field Crew Supervisor to conduct field research (surveys) to monitor both aquatic, and terrestrial habitat health, and enhance ecological habitats across the Bedeque Watershed.

Role duties:
•Collect and analyze freshwater samples, macro-invertebrate population samples, deployment/collection of in-situ probes, use of field collection unit (YSI Pro Plus) and lab photometer.
•Conduct Monarch Watch protocols - inclusive of Monarch rearing, tagging/release protocols, MMx Program pollinator site monitoring, Project Monarch Health OE Sampling
•Assist with Tree Swallow Monitoring Program – installation/monitoring of nest boxes, monitoring and banding of adults and fledglings, collection/upload of data to national data base.
•Conduct Bank Swallow shoreline colony site monitoring and adjacent habitat assessments.
•Conduct Atlantic Salmon habitat/spawning site targeted enhancement initiative, plus general instream species fish habitat enhancement protocols.
•Conduct fish population assessments and electrofishing surveys.
•Implement hedgerow/riparian enhancement measures: native tree and shrub planting.
•Implement pollinator habitat assessment and/or enhancement protocols on landscapes adjacent to agricultural fields inclusive: Swamp milkweed propagation, and native perennial planting.
•Employ GPS/GIS technology to conduct ecological monitoring related to habitat restoration (vegetation surveys, invasive species assessment/removal).
•Assist in SeaGrass.Net eel grass meadow monitoring project site assessments.
•Assist with delivery of BBEMA Youth Environmental Programs: student in class/lab sessions and on-site field trips.
Other Duties:
•Office work will involve online database entry, analyzing and interpreting data, and writing scientific reports.
