Happy October! 🍂
September was a busy month for us, and we're looking forward to starting more of our fall activities this month!

🐟 Photos 1 & 2 are from our seine net demonstration with the Holland College Transitions Summerside class! During this demonstration, students were able to get an up-close look at some of our ocean's biodiversity. We found flounder, rock crabs, hermit crabs, and lots of silverside!

🌱 Photos 3 & 4 are from our seed collecting. We have been collecting various seeds from our gardens in preparation for next year's projects.

🌲 Photos 5, 6, 7, 8 are our before & after photos of maintenance on a local trail!

Today is National Seniors Day! 🌷💚

We would like to take a moment to celebrate all the incredible seniors we’ve had the privilege of connecting with through some of our outreach activities! This year, we've been able to provide more senior's activities thanks to the Connecting Seniors to Nature Through Technology & Teaching Program (CSNTT).

Whether you gardened with us, helped us tag monarchs, or cultivated your own pollinator planter, we loved having you there! 🦋

Summer is coming to an end, but BBEMA staff are still staying busy through the fall! 🍂

Over the last few weeks, we have been continuing with our monarch butterfly monitoring, invasive pulling, and raking redds along the Dunk River. We have also started collecting seeds from our gardens! 🌱🌺

We still have lots of field work and outreach to do this fall, so keep an eye on our socials for upcoming events! 🦋

Last week was a busy week in the streams for BBEMA 🐟

On Tuesday and Wednesday, we did a few electrofishing survey spot checks along the Dunk River. Huge thank you to Mary and Karalee from Forests, Fish and Wildlife PEI for coming out to help us with the surveys, and Holland College Transitions Summerside for coming out to watch a demonstration. Students were able to get up close views of some of the different fish species living in our watershed! 🐟

We would also like to thank The Wheatley River Improvement Group and Hunter-Clyde Watershed Group for inviting us out to help with one of their surveys on Thursday!

What a start to the school year!

Thank you to our parents, guardians and local schools for your patience, understanding and help as we set a new routine including school pick ups!

We're jumping right back in to our SATURDAY RESPITE-literally.

Join us Saturday, September 19th as we collab with Bedeque Bay Environmental Management Association to ADOPT A RIVER!

We are going to learn all about how vital our many Island rivers, streams, wetlands and ponds are to our environment, our wildlife and our people in the best way possible- by jumping right in and getting our hands ( and feet!) dirty.

Thank you so much to BBEMA for supplying the waders and necessary equipment and guidance!

If you want to learn more about the amazing and oh so important work our local watershed groups do- please check them out, volunteer and learn some of the coolest facts about why, how and where you can help out too!

🍃Check out our iNaturalist account () from Sept. 18 to Sept. 27, as we will be taking pictures and uploading of lots of different flora and fauna we find around the island.
