More Than a T-shirt

What started out as Mel’s way to bring a smile to her son, RJ’s face has now become a mission to bring awareness to children who live with invisible disabilities on a daily basis. The ‘What Don’t You Know’ campaign came to life after being an inside, family discussion in hopes to turn RJ’s days around after incidents of being bullied at school. Mel would explain to RJ, “It’s a case of the what don’t you know’s, buddy.” in other words, some kids can not understand what they can not see.

RJ, our #whatdontyouknow campaign founder, has been diagnosed with eleven different disabilities that effect him in several ways day-to-day. RJ may look like any typical child but struggles with anxiety, attachment disorder, borderline intellectual disorder, ADHD and OCD to name a few. As a result, he can be loud, quick to temper, emotional, and interacts with kids younger than him. However, RJ is never alone in this battle and his support system is as strong as ever. His older brother Chanlor Cord, our co-founder alongside Mel, has been RJ’s number one fan through thick and thin. Through on-going encouragement and support these brothers have started something really special that we hope can make a difference for other children but more importantly start a conversation!

Our goal is to raise awareness first and fore-mostly and to change the perspective of invisible disabilities. Before judgement is made, lets take a step back and look at the “what don’t you know” piece of the puzzle that is a reality for children all over the world. Societal norms for youth can lead to labels, judgement, being given up on, and bullying. As a way to give back and spread the awareness for these childen, Rj has decided that the proceeds from his campaign will go to help families with children like himself. Testing, technology, and other support resources are costly and our mission is to support them in their journey of success as much as we can!
