Dr. Koti is a Veterinarian with Ph.D. in Molecular Immunology. She is currently an Associate Professor at the Sinclair Cancer Research Institute, Queen's University. Research in her lab focuses on investigating patient age and s*x associated immune physiology and how these link with chronic inflammation and response to treatment in bladder cancer. At this year's Walk, Dr. Koti's remarks will focus on ongoing research in her lab on these two non-modifiable risk factors associated with treatment outcomes in bladder cancer.

This Global News news interview 'Warning Signs for Bladder Cancer' from October 2012 is still very much valid in 2025.

In 2012, the Canadian Cancer Society estimated 7200 people in Canada would be diagnosed with bladder cancer.

In 2024, the Canadian Cancer Society estimate showed significant increases in part due to our aging population:

• 9,300 men will be diagnosed with bladder cancer and 1,900 will die from it.
• 3,000 women will be diagnosed with bladder cancer and 740 will die from it.

Register today for the Kingston 'Canada Walks for Bladder Cancer to learn more and support Bladder Cancer Canada / Cancer de la vessie Canada services for those affected by this disease.
