Kingston student is recognized among Canada’s top young scientists after winning a major award at the country’s premier STEM competition

A group of students from Kingston took home some hardware (and some money) at the 2026 Canada-Wide Science Fair in Edmonton.

Liam Desre (KSS), Ryan Varma (Calvin Park PS), Shail Patel (LCVI), Anjali Patel (LCVI), and Alexandra Xu (Calvin Park PS) represented the Frontenac Lennox & Addington region at the event.

Liam will be off to Germany representing Canada at the European Union of Young Scientists 2026.

His passion for teaching about Math 🧮, the Environment 💚, the Earth 🌎, Space 🪐 and the rest of the Sciences is infectious. On clear nights, Rob can be found exploring the dark skies of Ontario photographing the heavens through one of his telescopes, or planning his next Astronomical adventure✨🔭☄️

The FLASF Kingston Regional Science Fair will take place on March 26-27, 2026. We are looking for judges, who can be professors, teachers, staff scientists of all kinds, graduate students, Con-Ed students, and post-doc fellows. Others may also be eligible and can contact us if interested.

The judging will take place from 5 pm to 9 pm on Thursday, March 26th at Duncan McArthur Hall, Faculty of Education, Queen’s University West Campus (corner of Union St. and Sr. John A. MacDonald Blvd).
