The RMC Astronomy Club organizes open house viewings on clear nights using the 16" Meade LX200 GPS telescope in the rooftop observatory. Viewings will be advertised through emails and posts on the page. Off campus viewings and solar viewings will be organized periodically throughout the year as well.

Another night of it!

UPDATE: IMPACT! The coronal mass ejection just hit Earth. A strong (G4) geomagnetic storm is underway. If you live in Eastern Canada, head outside now! Let us know if you see auroras!

Observers across Canada be on alert for auroras September 7-9! A fast-moving coronal mass ejection (huge solar outburst) should arrive in late afternoon or early evening, so keep an eye on the sky immediately after sunset. This alert will extend to our American friends in Alaska and the northern US border states. Here are some useful tips for observing the northern lights:

Conditions are expected to diminish this afternoon with a second wave of elevated activity levels expected this evening.
