It’s that time of year again! The occasion that is a delight to nature lovers, landscapers and property owners throughout the Kingston area.

The Friends of Lemoine Point will host their annual Fall Tree Sale on Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Native Plant Nursery on the grounds of Lemoine Point Conservation Area.

As in past years, the sale features a variety of trees, shrubs and perennial wildflowers – all native species to the area. Available species and pricing to come.

Temporary Closure of South Parking Lot at Lemoine Point- Aug. 24

On Monday August 24, 2026, the Lemoine Point Conservation Area south parking lot will be closed for a portion of the day to accommodate shrub removal and vegetation clearing at the Grassland Habitat Project site. Trails around the project area will be closed for a portion of the day as well. Please do not use these areas while work is being done, barricades and staff will be present to notify trail users and suggest alternate routes. Thank you for your cooperation.

Important Grassland Habitat Restoration Project At Lemoine Point

Cataraqui Conservation, in a special partnership with Ducks Unlimited Canada, is undertaking a Grassland Habitat Restoration Project at the southern end of the Lemoine Point Conservation Area in Kingston. The area has been slowly deteriorating over time. Native forbs and grasses have been replaced by aggressively spreading shrubs and other woody plant species.

As a result, there has been a noted reduction in the number of breeding pairs of both Bobolink and Eastern Meadowlark, two native bird species listed as Threatened under the federal Species At Risk Act. Available plants for pollinator species have also been reduced over time, due to increasing shrub encroachment.

This project will ultimately enhance biodiversity, provide critical habitat to threatened species as well as improve the site's overall resilience to climate change and invasive species.

De-Phraging With Some Friends!

On July 22, the Friends of Lemoine Point coordinated and participated in what they termed a ‘De-phrag-menting’ process at the conservation area, helping remove thousands of plants from this viciously fast-spreading and destructive invasive aquatic plant species.
