A more sustainable destination starts with how we get there, get around and experience it. 🚲

How people travel to, from and around a destination shapes their experience of a place, while also influencing accessibility, environmental impacts and the communities they visit.

What opportunities exist to make travel more sustainable, accessible and enjoyable? How can tourism organizations, transportation providers and local businesses help visitors explore Kingston while supporting the needs of residents?

These are some of the questions we'll explore at the Sustainable Hospitality Summit during Travelling Sustainably, moderated by Megan Zelle of Kingston Accommodation Partners.

Megan is a Communications Specialist and Policy Advisor at Kingston Accommodation Partners. With a background in global development focused on climate change, health equity and tourism, she's passionate about sustainable tourism and ensuring local communities benefit from the industry's growth.

Whether you work in tourism, transportation or hospitality, or simply want to think more about the impact of your own travels, this conversation offers an opportunity to learn and share ideas.

Join us November 18 as we explore what a more sustainable visitor economy could look like for Kingston.

Food sustainability starts long before anything reaches the compost bin. 🍽️

From purchasing ingredients and planning menus to preparing meals, redistributing surplus food and managing organics, decisions throughout the food system can have significant environmental, social and economic impacts.

How can food businesses and community organizations make more sustainable choices? What's already working in Kingston, where do challenges remain, and what practical changes can make a difference?

At the Sustainable Hospitality Summit, From Kitchen to Community: Building a More Sustainable Food System will explore these questions and create space for people across the sector to exchange ideas and experiences.

Moderated by Katie Ardington of the Kingston Culinary Association, this session will look at opportunities to strengthen sustainability throughout the food system.

Katie is the Managing Director of the Kingston Culinary Association, a Red Seal Chef and culinary professor with more than 20 years of hospitality experience including serving as Executive Chef with Beckta Restaurant Group and Resident Executive Chef to the Prime Minister of Canada. Her work brings together restaurants, producers, hospitality businesses and community partners to strengthen Kingston's culinary sector.

Whether you're involved in food service, hospitality, production or community food initiatives, this conversation is for you.

What does a more sustainable visitor economy look like?

Tourism brings people to Kingston to experience our food, culture, waterfront, businesses and community. But how can we make sure that growth also supports the people who live and work here?

Building a more sustainable visitor economy means considering the full picture: how we travel, where our food comes from, how businesses operate, how accessible our destinations are, and how visitors and residents can benefit together.

These questions aren't limited to tourism professionals. As travellers, customers, workers and community members, we all have a role to play.

On November 18, join Sustainable Kingston for the Sustainable Hospitality Summit to explore these ideas, share experiences and discover opportunities to make Kingston's visitor economy more sustainable, resilient and accessible.

Sustainable Hospitality Summit 🌱

What could a more sustainable visitor economy look like?

On November 18, Sustainable Kingston is bringing together people from tourism, hospitality, food, transportation, and related sectors to explore the opportunities and challenges involved in building a more sustainable visitor economy.

The Summit will feature two concurrent sessions focused on food waste and sustainable travel.

🍽️ From Kitchen to Community: Building a More Sustainable Food System

Food sustainability is about more than what happens when food becomes waste. This session will explore how decisions around purchasing, menu planning, preparation, surplus food, redistribution, and organics can contribute to more sustainable food systems.

🚲 Travelling Sustainably

This session will explore how we can rethink the ways people travel to, from, and around destinations, and consider opportunities to make travel and transportation more sustainable, accessible, and enjoyable.

Both sessions will bring together people with experience across these areas to share practical ideas, explore challenges, and consider opportunities for collaboration.

We’re also looking to connect with people who have relevant knowledge, experience, resources, or expertise and may be interested in sharing their insights with attendees. If you have something you think could contribute to the conversation, we encourage you to fill out our Expert Form.

🌱 What a wonderful way to celebrate sustainability in Kingston!

A huge thank you to all of our 2026 Sustainable Kingston Award winners and to everyone who joined us to celebrate them. From large-scale operations to neighbourhood action, this year’s Awards reminded us just how many people are working to build a more sustainable Kingston.

We’re especially grateful to celebrate both those who have been on their sustainability journey for years and those who are just getting started. Every action has a place in building a more sustainable community.

A special thank you to our Awards Sponsor, Scotiabank, for helping make this event possible, and to our Event Supporter, Nosh Bagels, for providing a wonderful assortment of bagels for everyone to enjoy. And thank you to Afton McConvey for providing the live music and helping create such a great atmosphere.

We’d also like to thank the City of Kingston and Deputy Mayor Gary Oosterhof for coming out and showing their support for this year’s Awards and for the people working to make our community more sustainable.

Most of all, thank you to everyone who nominated, participated, volunteered, attended, supported, and helped make this year’s Awards possible. It takes a community to put an event like this together, and we’re so grateful for all the work that happens behind the scenes.

**Together, we’re building a more sustainable Kingston.** 🌿
