Join the Education Committee 📚for our next Eat & Educate session: ✨Bargaining 101 ✨

We want every Steelworker to have a basic understanding of how bargaining works and how members have a voice in the process. 💬

Regardless of which bargaining unit you belong too, the process is the same. Join the Education Committee to learn more about collective bargaining, the role of the Union and its members, and the processes that govern your voice at the bargaining table with the Employer.

Lunch orders are due by August 28 - check your email for the link!

AI Advisory Committee!

The USW National Policy Conference is coming up early in 2027. As part of the conference, USW locals from across Canada will be drafting resolutions to determine our National Union's direction and policies.

A key issue that is increasingly effecting workers, especially in our sector, is the emergence of Large Language Models (LLM) and other AI technology. In order to ensure our Union is appropriately informed about this issue, USW 2010 is creating an AI Advisory Committee to review AI's emerging impact and to draft resolutions to guide Union policy.

If you are interested in becoming part of the AI Advisory Committee, please fill out the survey in the August Newsletter. Committee meetings are expected to begin in mid to late August.

Join the Joint Health & Safety Committee!

Queen's operates eleven (11) joint health and safety committees across campus. These committees are required by law and composed of equal numbers of workers and managers who work together to address workplace safety.

The committees have recently changed their rules to expand membership. Now, workers are allowed to appoint one alternate member for every worker on the committee. Alternates sit on the committee when the regular member is unable to attend and assist with safety inspections and other supporting duties.

Health and Safety Committee meetings, training, and inspections occur during normal work hours and are paid at your regular rate. Meetings typically occur 4 - 6 times per year, inspections once per month, and training is required every few years.

If you are interested in becoming an alternate for one of the committees, please complete the survey in the August Newsletter! 📬
