Reptile and Amphibian Advocacy Helping to conserve Ontario's reptiles and amphibians through outreach education and boots-on-ground www.reptileandamphibianadvocacy.com

The Reptile And Amphibian Advocacy project hopes that through outreach education and awareness individuals from the general public will help aid in the protection of herptiles. Through habitat management, land owner stewardship, informed decision making, and peaceful co-existence (i.e alleviate the number of herps intentionally killed due to fear).

Amphibians are still migrating!

This adorable Blue Spotted Salamander was brought in because he was found in a pool. We kept the little one for a couple of days to ensure all was well. After consulting with Kenny at Reptile and Amphibian Advocacy we released the salamander so they could continue on their way to hibernate.

Take a look at Canada’s longest snake species, the Gray Ratsnake (on the right). This gentle giant is often found in trees where it preys on birds, but can also be seen sliding around the grounds of Thousand Islands National Park.
The Gray Ratsnake is a part of the park’s Reptile and Amphibian Recovery and Education (R.A.R.E) program 🐍. Unfortunately, these snakes are a threatened species due to habitat loss, road mortality, and persecution by humans. Stay tuned for more information on how you can help Parks Canada with the recovery of Gray Ratsnakes.
