If you are like me, you want to make a positive difference in someone else's life? I originally went to India on a humanitarian project to work at an Orphanage. I was thinking somehow that I could show them how to do it right.....you know the western way. When I arrived, I got a REALITY CHECK. I soon realized that the people there were very capable and resourceful. They showed me how to do it. I r
emember asking if they had a cordless drill? My friend looked at me stunned. "We do but they are useless here." Seems they have rotating power outages. So the drills are never charged properly and can't be recharged when you need them. I saw a carpenter make a block plane out of a stick of lumber before he started work. They work differently there...but what they do works. My skills were useless. The building materials were different and the work ethics superior. They could make something out of nothing. I went along for the ride. I saw them drill a 300 ft well, case it, cap it with a hand pump and in three days the project was ready for dedication. I was dumb founded. The workers started early in the morning and never left their post except for dinner. They worked late into the night with barely a light to see what they were doing. I never heard a single complaint. They were happy and content to be doing their part in bringing safe clean water to a remote village. I saw what the value of a Canadian dollar could do in India. With minimal financial support and encouragement from half way around the world...Orphan children had a place to live, learn and grow in a loving environment. Communities had clean drinking water. It cost $1.00 a day to bring all this to a child. Wow, I can do this. Being apart of DNSH allows us to send funds to humanitarian projects in India. We have developed partners there who are financially accountable to us. The great part of this is all of the funds designated for a project reach their intended destination. We are all volunteers with very little overhead expenses. I see the dollar as and equal representation of my valuable time. When I send it to India it multiplies 10 fold. What a great return for my resources. YOU can get involved. Start letting your money work for you. a cheque for $30 per month / $90 a quarter / $360 a year is all it takes. We are a Canadian Registered Charity and will send you a Canadian tax receipt at the end of the year. It is great knowing you are making a difference in the world.
