Daughters for Life Foundation is a registered Canadian charity that offers full scholarships, awards, and fellowships to young women from the Middle East. The Queen's University Chapter strives to raise money and awareness for these causes. The organization was founded by Dr. Abuelaish, a five-time Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, in 2010. Dr. Abuelaish grew up in Gaza, Palestine. He was the first Pales

tinian doctor to work in an Israeli hospital. In January of 2009, the Israeli military shelled his home in Gaza killing three of his daughters - Aya, 13, Mayar, 15, and Bessan, 21. In honor of his daughters love for life and learning, he established Daughters for Life as a means to promote peace within the region. To date, Daughters for Life has empowered nearly 400 young women to continue their education. Our scholarships are open for young women from Palestine, Israel, Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq and Syria. Our scholar studying at various universities in Canada, the United States, the United Kingdom, and India. Our programs are offered to young women in the Middle East from all backgrounds and religions. Our recipients are chosen for their academic achievements, character, and commitment to improving the lives of girls and young women in the Middle East.

Hi my name is Juliana, my pronouns are she/her. I am a third-year con-Ed student. I am the events director of this club, and we have some exciting fundraisers coming your way! Last year, I was a general member, and this year I wanted to take on a bigger role. The reason why I joined in the first place is that I truly see the value that free education can do for us all. It gives us the power to strive in our own direction, and I am fortunate enough to have an education, I also want others to be able to have the same accessibility that we do.

Hi, my name is Maggie and my pronouns are she/her! I am a fourth-year sociology major at Queen’s.

I am one of the two co-chairs for Daughters for Life (DFL) this year, alongside Sorsha. I joined DFL in my second year as I have always been very passionate about the importance of education for young women and girls.

I support girls' education because I believe education is a powerful tool in helping individuals to maximize their potential as it could significantly improve their economic, political, and social situation. Most importantly, education should be a right that is accessible for everyone. I believe DFL is the right place for me to achieve my personal mission and raise public awareness on this complex, systemic issue.

Fun fact about me: I am a polyglot 🙂
