H'art Centre

H'art Centre Supporting people with disabilities in the arts. Join us & create a vibrant community. It is a place where anything creative can happen.

H’art Centre is an award-winning, accessible arts hub where people with disabilities and those facing barriers can study, enjoy and produce works in the arts throughout their lives. It strives to be a leader in the Disability Arts movement and it champions accessibility, indirect learning, understanding, public engagement, and community collaboration. We offer the following programs:

H'ART STUDIO

We deliver a high-quality arts program for adults with developmental disabilities. It offers visual arts, theatre, dance, music, media arts, and literary arts workshops and the opportunity to create alongside qualified instructors and professional artists. THE BOX
We provide access to the performing arts to those facing barriers through THE BOX, a 3,500 square foot accessible performing arts space. We support, promote and advance a diverse and inclusive population within accessible performing arts experiences. Home to Able Artists, an ongoing series of workshops by professional Canadian artists with disabilities and leaders in the inclusive arts field. THE MIX
THE MIX is a warm and welcoming 4,000 square foot space where people with disabilities, people who are D/deaf, MixAbilities-trained artist facilitators, and inclusive arts groups learn, develop, rehearse, exhibit, and collaborate. With this new space, we bring inclusive theatre groups together for residencies and offer on-site community outreach workshops. The Mix is an incubator for new inclusive arts leaders, accelerating positive change in Kingston and beyond. We offer our award-winning inclusive arts training program, MixAbilities, in The Mix. It gives volunteers, artists, and arts educators unique access to our inclusive arts facilitation techniques. We reach out so people of diverse abilities can participate in the arts throughout their lives and as they age. H’art Centre’s newest initiative takes a community arts outreach approach to ensure all people have access to meaningful arts-based programming.

🎙️ One of the wonderful things about CFRC 101.9fm is that they give local groups the chance to "Take Over" the airwaves and share what they do with the community.

We were delighted to be part of it last week!

If you missed our interview, it is now back on YouTube.

A little creativity + a little connection. 🐦🥤

Last week, we joined the Milkshake Social with the Sisters at Providence Village. We brought the birdhouses, they brought the milkshakes — and we enjoyed spending a little time together.

A little “big tent” testing happened yesterday! 🎪

After a summer of circus-inspired arts, it’s pretty exciting to see things starting to come together for a fun, seasonal celebration.

Love seeing artist-participants, volunteers and community artists working together and bringing it all to life!

Psst… H’art families, if you haven’t RSVP’d yet, today’s the day. ❤️

What a great first week! 👋✨

We’re excited to welcome our new Executive Director Nicole Fougère! The first week has been full of conversations, ideas and discovering what makes this place so special. There’s been time with the team, meeting lots of great people along the way, and even some Taylor Swift karaoke with H'art artists… 🎤😄

Here are a few moments from the first week — and here’s to more to come! 💛

🌱 Creativity takes more than an idea to grow — it takes people coming together.

Here’s an update on our community garden project with Independent Living Centre Kingston. We’ve been working together to plant raised garden beds, creating a shared space for connection, collaboration, and creativity in Providence Village.

Partnerships like these help ensure creativity isn’t confined to one place — it continues to grow throughout the community.

🎪 Have you ever wanted to try something a little creative?

H'art Studio's circus-arts inspired summer program is offering 3-day summer experiences. It's your chance to explore movement, creativity, and new skills in a supportive and welcoming environment. The Studio is a space to build confidence, connect with others, and discover what you’re capable of — all while having fun along the way.

Trial experiences are available in July and August, with limited spaces available. We’d love to welcome you in and help you get a feel for what our programs are all about.

From centre ring to community roots 🎪🌿
After a busy Skeleton Park Arts Fest exhibit project, we’re slowing the pace for a few days, while still connecting to our neighbours and partners. This includes our Providence Village planter project shared with Independent Living Centre Kingston —flowers, herbs, and veggies growing side by side, just like our connections.
💛 Growing together. 🌿

This past weekend, we were part of the Skeleton Park Arts Fest with a collaborative circus-inspired installation.

The video shows our colourful wooden installation on the park fence.

Artists reimagined the rules, creating fantastical personas and acts that explore imagination, play, and possibility.

A fun weekend of collaboration, creativity, and community. 🎪✨
