Julia, a part-time Crescent Centre staff member and a valued part of New Beginnings, has experienced the heartbreaking loss of her 8-year-old son after a tragic anaphylactic reaction.

Sold. Thank-you Laurie Rose. As mentioned in our last post, over the next few months our New Beginnings Furniture Program will be dedicating furniture pieces to help support our co-worker Julia as she navigates the heartbreaking loss of her 8-year-old son.

This next piece is a beautiful drum-style hexagon table that has been freshly updated with a white body and a soft glaze finish, giving it a warm, Pottery Barn-inspired look.

With heavy hearts, we are sharing that one of our very own part-time Crescent Centre staff members, Julia, has experienced the worst loss a parent could ever face. Her beautiful 8-year-old son tragically passed away after an anaphylactic reaction.

Julia is part of our New Beginnings Furniture Program, so this loss is very near and dear to our hearts.

Over the next few months, we will be dedicating our furniture pieces to help support Julia with loss of income and other expenses, offering even a small bit of relief during this incredibly difficult time. Some proceeds will also help purchase the supplies needed to complete more pieces, with those proceeds also going directly to Julia.

This specific table is especially meaningful, as Julia had been working on it alongside the guys in our program. The top has been refinished in Mission Oak and clear-coated for protection, with the body finished in a beautiful blue colour.

This gorgeous dresser was kindly donated by our supervisor’s sister, and although it showed its age and required quite a bit of repair, our team was up for the challenge.

With care, patience, and skill, it has been restored as close to its original state as possible—bringing its character and beauty back to life.

A special thank you to our Supervisor Courtney, who recognized the true potential in this piece from the very beginning. After seeing the transformation, she made the heartfelt decision to keep it in the family. 💛

Moments like this remind us why we do what we do—restoring not just furniture, but stories, memories, and meaningful connections.

Thank you to everyone who continues to support our program and the incredible work of our participants.

We are so pleased to share that we finally had enough funds to purchase much-needed items for Lily’s Family Shelter.

Using approximately $300 from our program funds, we were able to purchase:

* Tupperware
* Dish towels
* Towels
* Twin and double comforters
* School snacks
* Drinking glasses
* Cutlery
* New pots and pans
* Frying pans
* And many other useful household items

A very special thank you goes to one of our biggest supporters and generous contributors, Amanda Paquette. The purchase of the 4 tables she bought provided most of the funds that made this possible.

We have also collected small and medium men’s pants for the Kingston Youth Shelter, and we are currently working on purchasing cleaning supplies and shoes for them as well.

Thank you all for your continued support of our program. The pride our supported individuals feel when they complete projects from beginning to end is incredible, especially knowing their work is making a real difference in our community.

That’s what New Beginnings is all about. 💙
