Men's mental health matters for everyone, they are our fathers, our sons, our brothers, our husbands and uncles.

If you know a CAF member who is need to of mental health assistance or need to reach out for help, there are resources available.

Let's break the stigma and fight this one together.

In 2011, an incredible stash of First World War German helmets, mostly M1916 Stahlhelme, was discovered in northern France, where they had been buried for nearly a century.

The find was thanks to a long-lost letter from a French soldier during the war, describing dump filled with gear taken from German prisoners.

Using the letter’s details, researchers and metal detector enthusiasts tracked down the spot and unearthed dozens of steel helmets, perfectly preserved in the soil since the war’s final years.

Brain injuries don’t always look the way people expect — and they’re often missed. June is Brain Injury Awareness Month, so we’ll be taking this time to share more about brain injuries and how they can affect the Veteran and Family community.

A brain injury doesn’t just affect one person — it can reshape daily life for Families, impacting routines, relationships and overall well-being. Symptoms such as headaches, memory issues, trouble concentrating, mood changes and sleep problems can overlap with posttraumatic stress disorder, making it harder to recognize. Understanding the signs is a crucial step toward getting the right support.

Whether you’re living with a brain injury, supporting someone who is, or suspect you or someone you know may have one, trusted information and resources can make all the difference.

More and more the term "Post Traumatic Stress Injury" (PTSI) is being used because it more accurately names the symptoms as an injury to the brain vs a disorder.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can affect daily life in ways that are difficult to explain and easy for others to miss.

Within military, Veteran and public safety communities, exposure to trauma and operational stress can have lasting impacts that extend beyond the workplace, affecting relationships, routines, mental health and overall well-being. For many individuals, those experiences are carried quietly while continuing to manage work, family, caregiving and daily responsibilities.

During PTSD Awareness Month, we encourage continued conversations that help build understanding, reduce stigma and increase awareness of the resources and support systems available to those living with PTSD and trauma-related injuries.

Access to support can look different for everyone, whether through peer support, mental health services, community programs, or simply knowing where to start.

Shrapnel that once filled the air over Vimy Ridge. 💥

During the First World War, these shells burst above the ground, scattering metal balls called shrapnel across advancing infantry. This fragment, still holding some shrapnel balls, was recovered at Vimy in 1986.

A small piece of a devastating weapon.

The government’s decision to revisit how military honours like the Victoria Cross are awarded to Afghanistan Veterans, is the right one. We commend the decision to establish an independent review board and salute the groups and individuals who have been pressing for this sort of outcome for years. The Legion itself has advocated publicly and behind the scenes on this matter and we’re pleased to see this development. We hope this eventually results in deserving individuals such as the late Pte. Jess Larochelle being awarded the Victoria Cross for his bravery in Afghanistan.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------
