Grantee Spotlight: Supporting Those Who Answer the Call

When emergencies happen, reliable communication can make all the difference.

With support from the Kimberley & District Community Foundation, Kimberley Search and Rescue now has enough radios to equip every member - strengthening their ability to respond when our community needs them most.

Hereโ€™s what they shared with us:

"The additional radios have been a huge help as we can now issue radios to every one of our members. Huge thank you to the KDCF folks for making that happen. They were especially helpful during last weekend's evacuation orders and alerts."

Behind every radio is a dedicated volunteer who trains, prepares and shows up - often at a momentโ€™s notice.

To the Kimberley Search and Rescue team: thank you for everything you do to help keep our community safe. Weโ€™re proud to support your important work. ๐Ÿ’™

And thank you to our donors who make grants like this possible!

The Kimberley & District Community Foundation was pleased to present the annual cheque to the City of Kimberley from the BC Winter Games Legacy Endowment Fund.

What began with the surplus from the 1980 BC Winter Games has grown into something truly remarkable. Since the fund was entrusted to KDCF in 2001, it has:

โœ… Awarded more than $111,700 in grants to support amateur sport in Kimberley
โœ… Grown from an initial investment of $64,000 to a market value of over $172,000 (as of December 31, 2025)

This is the power of an endowment: supporting our community today while continuing to grow for tomorrow.

As the Kimberley & District Community Foundation celebrates 25 years of building lasting community impact, we're excited to share that the BC Winter Games Legacy Endowment is now open to public donations! For the first time, individuals and businesses can help grow this permanent fund while receiving a charitable tax receipt.

Whether you're a former athlete, coach, volunteer, parent, or simply believe in the value of community sport, your gift will help ensure future generations have the opportunity to play, compete, and thrive.

๐ŸŽ‰ While you're out enjoying all the fun of JulyFest this weekend, be sure to stop by and check out the brand-new playground at Rotary Park!

It was a pleasure to attend the official opening of the newly renovated playground on July 11. A huge congratulations to the Kimberley Rotary Club for leading this incredible project, and thank you to the City of Kimberley and the many generous donors and partners who helped bring it to life.

From the safer, resilient ground surface to the exciting new play structures, it's wonderful to see so many kids already enjoying this fantastic community space. ๐Ÿ’™

The Kimberley & District Community Foundation was proud to contribute just over $3,000 toward this project. While our contribution was modest, it's a great example of how community partnerships come together to create something meaningful for everyone.

As our endowment funds continue to grow through the generosity of local businesses, families, and legacy donors, we're excited to support even more projects that help make Kimberley and District an even better place to live - for generations to come.

Enjoy JulyFest, and have fun at the park! ๐ŸŒž

You may have noticed something new at the entrances to Kimberley! ๐ŸŽ‰

This weekend our board volunteers installed the Kimberley & District Community Foundation logo on the community service club signs welcoming people into town.

A heartfelt thank you to the Kimberley Rotary Club, Mark Creek Lions Club, and Kimberley Elks Club for welcoming us onto these signs and supporting the installation. We truly appreciate your generosity and partnership.

These organizations have dedicated countless hours to making Kimberley a stronger, more connected community. It's an honour for KDCF to share this space alongside groups that have given so much to our community over the years. ๐Ÿค

Here's to working together to build an even stronger Kimberley - for today and for generations to come.

๐Ÿ’™ Grantee Spotlight: Kimberley Womenโ€™s Resource Center

Sometimes, the greatest impact comes from simply making support easier to reach.
With the help of a grant from the Kimberley & District Community Foundation, Community Connections Society was able to provide weekly Women's Resource Centre services in Kimberley by helping cover the travel costs needed to bring these services into our community.

๐Ÿ’œ Women were able to access essential menstrual products close to home.
๐Ÿ’œ One young woman shared that without access to a vehicle, having services available in Kimberley made a real difference during a difficult time.
๐Ÿ’œ Grow generously donated space each Monday, creating a welcoming, central location where women could easily access support.
๐Ÿ’œ New community connections were formed, including a partnership with Black Dog that helped provide winter gear to those who needed it.

As Nikki, who delivered the weekly Kimberley services, shared:
"Having a central location removed transportation barriers and made it easier for people to access support when they needed it most."

Stories like these remind us that every grant helps create opportunities for connection, dignity, and support.

Thank you to Community Connections Society and Grow for the incredible work you do to support women in our region, and thank you to our donors for making grants like this possible. Together, we're helping build a stronger, more connected community. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿ’™Legacy Spotlight: The Kittie Bengston Fund

Kittie Bengston was a true pillar of our community. For 30 years, she dedicated herself to The Pines, serving as Treasurer and supporting residents, families, and staff with unwavering commitment and care.

Through her generosity and foresight, Kittie established a permanent legacy by leaving 15% of her estate to create the Kittie Bengston Fund. Her gift of more than $100,000 now provides ongoing support for the Pines Memorial & Development Society and projects that enhance the lives of residents at the Kimberley Special Care Home.

That is the power of legacy giving.

A legacy gift allows your values to live on and continue making a difference in the community you love for generations to come.

Through the Kimberley & District Community Foundation, you can:
โ€ข Establish your own named fund (minimum $10,000) to support causes that matter most to you
โ€ข Leave a percentage of your estate to create lasting community impact
โ€ข Contribute any amount to our Community Fund or Memorial Fund to support local needs

Kittie's kindness, dedication, and generosity continue to touch lives today - and will for years to come.

If you'd like to learn more about creating your own legacy, we'd be happy to have a conversation. ๐Ÿ’™

Grantee Spotlight: Monitoring the Health of Lazy Lake ๐Ÿ’™

This is the kind of impact that happens when our community gives locally.

A $2,002 grant supported through the Kimberley & District Community Foundation and the BC Lake Stewardship Society helped the Lazy Lake Environment Association enhance its water monitoring efforts with support for the purchase of a new dissolved oxygen meter.

Recently, volunteers headed out onto the lake to begin seasonal testing - collecting important water quality data including turbidity, dissolved oxygen, and temperature readings throughout the water column. This information is shared with scientists and contributes to peer-reviewed environmental reports that help guide future decision-making and stewardship efforts.

Even better? This project brought multiple generations together on the lake for a day of learning, science, and appreciation for our natural environment. ๐ŸŒฒ๐Ÿšค

The new equipment is helping the Association collect valuable data that will support the stewardship and health of Lazy Lake for years to come.

Projects like this are made possible through partnerships, dedicated volunteers, and the generosity of local donors.

When you donate to the Kimberley & District Community Foundation, you help support meaningful local initiatives that protect, strengthen, and enrich our community - now and for future generations.

Local giving. Lasting impact.

Have you ever thought about leaving a gift to your community in your will? ๐Ÿ’™

Legacy giving is one of the most powerful ways to create lasting local impact.

A gift to KDCF becomes part of a permanent fund that supports Kimberley & District - year after year.

It can:
โœ” Support causes you care about
โœ” Honour a loved one
โœ” Strengthen the future of our region

Itโ€™s not about the size of the gift.
Itโ€™s about the intention behind it.

If youโ€™d like to learn more about legacy giving, weโ€™d be honoured to have a conversation.
