4-H PEI - It's time to Spring Clean!!!

PEI Women's Institute annual Roadside Clean-Up is scheduled for Saturday, May 9.

4-H members and volunteers across the island are encouraged to participate again this year in your local communities! You are welcome to use your own **clear** bags or the WI **yellow** bags which can be picked (after May 1) at the following locations:

*Access PEI Sites - O’Leary / Wellington / Summerside / Charlottetown / Montague / Souris

*Waste Watch Drop-Off Centers - Brockton / Wellington Center / New London / Dingwells Mills / Murray River

*IWMC Offices - Charlottetown + Tignish

*Anne Of Green Gables Chocolates

*PEI Public Library Service

Don't forget to take a picture and send it in or share it on social for a prize...AND...this is an excellent opportunity to finish up that Community Service Activity for the year! John Deere Canada 4-H Scholarship! Driving your future forward 🚜

With the support of John Deere Canada, 15 scholarships valued at $1,000 each are available to 4-H members pursuing post-secondary education in a degree, certificate, or trade-based program.

After our general meeting we got to give all the aluminum tabs we have collected to members of the Kensington Lions Club, who will redeem them for a donation to Shriners Children's to help support their incredible healthcare programs. We also played a new game called “Dolphin Training” which had everyone working together and laughing lots 🤩

Turning leftovers into lifelines 🥔💚

During their club planning meeting, members at the Kensington 4-H Club chose to take on another Agri-Food Challenge — this time focused on reducing food waste and supporting local food security.

With permission from a local seed potato farm, youth followed behind the digger to glean potatoes left in the field before they could go to waste. Following strict sanitation protocols to protect the crop, members gathered, bagged, and delivered the fresh potatoes directly to the Kensington Food Bank.

In total, 13 members, leaders, family volunteers and farmer Andrew MacMurdo and his wife Marilyn worked together to ensure healthy food reached families who need it most.

This project shows how simple ideas can make a real difference —supporting farmers, reducing waste, and strengthening communities.
