Beth Donovan Hospice Beth Donovan Hospice provides compassionate support and care to individuals and their families

Beth Donovan Hospice provides compassionate support and professional care to individuals and their families as they journey through the challenges of life-limiting illnesses and end-of-life transitions. Whether in a home or hospital setting, the experienced staff and trained volunteers of Beth Donovan Hospice give of themselves to ensure that the families receive the assistance, support and guidance they need. Founded through the compassion and vision of generous volunteers, Beth Donovan Hospice has been providing services to the community for over 20 years in the North Grenville - Merrickville area and more recently in the communities of South Ottawa. BDH serves all members of the community who have any life limiting illness; a terminal diagnosis is not the exclusive criterion. Medical care is not offered by Beth Donovan Hospice; however, we do attempt to co-ordinate our services with those offered by other agencies so that clients receive the maximum benefits. To speak to someone about how we may be of service, please call us at 613-258-9611. Referrals are accepted from: family members, clients, friends, clergy, physicians and other health care professionals and agencies, and, of course, self-referral. The patient/client must agree to involvement in the Hospice home-visiting program and be receptive to periodic visits by the Executive Director or Co-ordinator of Volunteers to assess ongoing needs and to monitor the program.

A special thank you to Kate and Jamie for welcoming our Therapeutic Art Group to visit their beautiful property and spend some special time with their horses.

Being outdoors and connecting with animals can bring a sense of calm, comfort and joy, while creating opportunities for connection and meaningful moments. Our clients enjoyed the fresh air, beautiful surroundings and, of course, some wonderful four-legged company! ❤️

We are so grateful to Kate and Jamie for sharing their space and making this such a special experience for our clients.

This past Thursday at Day Hospice, we spent some time thinking about a simple but important question:

What brings you joy? 💜

Our participants worked on their own “Joy Lists,” reflecting on the little and big things that make life feel good.

A warm cup of coffee.
A favourite song.
Time with family.
Being outside in the sunshine
Friday of a long weekend.

It was a lovely reminder that sometimes we need to stop and think about what brings us joy and then make a little more room for those things in our lives.

So we’re passing the question along to you:

What would be on your Joy List? 💜

Thank you to everyone who joined us last evening for our Overdose Awareness Memorial at Rotary Park. 💜

Gathering publicly matters. It helps reduce stigma, opens conversations, and creates a space to remember those we have lost and support those who continue to struggle.

A special thank you to the Kemptville Youth Centre for creating our purple chairs representing loved ones missing from the table, The Flower Shop for the purple carnations, Compassionate North Grenville , Municipality of North Grenville, Kemptville Stress Relief Centre and our community partners: Victim Services of Leeds and Grenville, Connect Youth , Southeast Public Health, who also provided naloxone kits, and Unbroken Recovery.

Our memorial flags will remain in the Rotary Park garden for the rest of the week. If you’re passing by, take a moment to remember those lost to overdose and the loved ones left behind. 💜

Free naloxone kits • Community resources • Refreshments • Memorial gathering

Join us Monday, August 31 from 6-7 PM at Rotary Park in Kemptville as we recognize International Overdose Awareness Day, a day observed around the world to remember those lost to overdose and support families, friends and those still struggling.

The Health Unit will be on site with free naloxone kits, along with community organizations offering information and support.

We’ll share names, pause for a moment of silence, and have memorial flags, refreshments and carnations to take home.

Everyone is welcome. This is a judgement free space. 💜

Our annual Day Hospice boat cruise
was a blast! We went cruising as pirates down the
Rideau River yesterday and ate tacos by the water for
lunch!

Thank you so much to Catch a Smile for the amazing
trip!

Our day hospice this week spent some time outside and in virtual reality! Our summer student Katie got them set up with the headset to travel the world to places like Holland, Newfoundland, and even under the sea to watch some whales and sea creatures! Some of the brave even tried their hand at a rollercoaster! The afternoon included musical entertainment from Keith's Kitchen Party! It was a beautiful day!
