It was a great weekend to visit Upper Canada Village - Morrisburg, Ontario. Not to investigate but to learn and experience the history.

Upper Canada village sits along the St. Lawrence River just outside of Morrisburg, Ontario. This historical setting will immerse you into life of the 1860's. Many of the historic buildings at this site were moved here from former communities ("Lost Villages") which are now under water from the St. Lawrence Seaway development project.

If these buildings could talk what stories would they tell...

On this day in 1692, in Salem, Massachusetts, began one of the most infamous events in North American history.

The Salem Witch Trials lasted about a year and a half, and was an act of inhumanity with the imprisonment of between 150-200 people (aged 4 to 81 years old), accusing them of witchcraft. Of those accused, 30 were quickly convicted, 19 were executed, 1 (my 9th great grandfather, Giles Corey) was tortured and "pressed" to death, while 5 died while imprisoned including a child.

Even though this horrific event occurred more than 300 years ago, we remember those wrongfully accused and punished as a result of fear and the simplistic thinking of their accusers of that time.
