For decades, a remote stretch of northern British Columbia has carried a haunting name: the Highway of Tears.

Highway 16 runs between Prince George and Prince Rupert, through isolated communities where numerous women and girls have disappeared or been found murdered. The National Inquiry into Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls heard extensive testimony about the disappearances along this corridor, including the particular vulnerability created by limited transportation in remote communities.

The exact number of cases associated with the Highway of Tears has varied depending on how cases are defined. An RCMP investigation roster included 18 murders and disappearances, while Indigenous communities and organizations have documented substantially more cases.

For the families, these are not simply statistics—they are mothers, daughters, sisters and friends whose stories remain unanswered.

Yesterday we took part in the su***de awareness walk. There definitely isn’t enough talk surrounding grief, and this walk was just another way to put the word out there. Thank you to everyone who joined us.

And a huge thanks to Barb Ferrier for creating this event. 💜
