Kelowna feels like summer right now.

Warm air, longer days, plans filling the calendar, and people spending more time outside.

But not everyone experiences this season the same way.

For many young adults, summer can bring uncertainty, major life transitions, changing routines,
and the pressure of figuring out what’s next.
Sometimes the busiest schedules leave the least
room to check in with ourselves.

This is why accessible mental health care matters.

Through Valley First’s support of Third Space, more young adults can access pay-what-you-can
counseling and steady, compassionate care when they need it most.

Because planning for the future starts with taking care of yourself in the present.

Mental health support is not seasonal, but summer can make emotions feel louder. Shifting routines, friends leaving for the season, the heat, the pressure to make the most of it… it can build up quickly.

Alongside counselling, simple and free grounding moments across Kelowna can help young adults feel more connected.

Try a calming walk along the Waterfront Boardwalk
Find quiet reflection on the trails at Knox Mountain
Sit or journal at Stuart Park
Read or breathe mindfully at a city beach
Explore downtown through a public art walk
Visit a library event for community and calm

These small moments of connection can make a real difference.

You are not expected to navigate this season alone.

Support is here, and community is all around you.

Identity is not something you define once. It is something that changes as you move through different stages of life. Who you were at eighteen will not look the same at twenty five, and that change is not a loss. It is part of becoming.

Life transitions, relationships, work, and lived experience all shape who you are over time. Sometimes older versions of yourself no longer fit. Sometimes new parts of you are still forming. That in between space can feel uncertain, but it is also where growth takes place.
You do not need to have everything figured out. You are allowed to explore, shift, and expand at your own pace. At Third Space, we honour the unfolding, the parts you have outgrown, the parts you are discovering, and the parts still taking shape.

There is room for all of it here.

Starting counselling can feel vulnerable, especially when you are opening up to someone new. The questions you ask at the beginning are important because they help you understand whether the space feels safe, supportive, and right for you.

You are allowed to ask things like:
• How do you help someone feel comfortable in sessions
• What happens if I struggle to explain how I feel
• Can I move at my own pace
• How do you create a trauma informed environment
• How do you support people who find trust difficult
• How do you make space for different identities and lived experiences

The right counselling space is not about having the perfect words or knowing exactly where to start. Often, it is simply about how the space makes you feel. Safe. Heard. Less pressured to perform or over explain.

That feeling matters. It can be the first sign that you have found a place where you are able to show up fully as yourself 🤍

Hearing our practicum students reflect on their experience has been so meaningful. 💛

Many shared that they felt supported, encouraged, and empowered to grow at their own pace through supervision, mentorship, workshops, and community connection. They spoke about gaining confidence, finding their voice as emerging counsellors, and feeling more prepared for the next chapter of their careers.

We are so proud of their growth and grateful to have been part of their journey. ✨

We are celebrating the students who have completed their practicum with us, and the incredible growth they have shown along the way. Over these past months, they have learned, stretched, reflected, and shown up with so much heart. Their presence has shaped our community in meaningful ways.

They spoke about feeling supported, guided, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. They shared how supervision, workshops, and connection helped them find their voice and confidence as emerging counsellors. Watching them step into their own style and deepen their understanding of the work has been a privilege.

Now they move into private practice, agency roles, social work positions, and holistic careers. Many hope to stay connected through alumni referrals, community events, and future collaborations, and we are honoured to continue walking alongside them.

To our graduates, thank you for the care you brought to this space. Thank you for the way you listened, learned, and supported your clients and each other. Your journey has inspired us, and there will always be space for you here.
