Last week Maya went to Kasugai’s Gujo Odori! It was a night filled with traditional dancing, street food and community. This was the third annual festival and is a sneak peak into a nearby dance festival in which people dance all night!

Despite the rain Maya and Tomomi San were able to enjoy their adventure to Kakuozan! They stopped by the Nittai-ji Temple for their monthly market and then explored Yokiso, a historical villa designed in 1930.

KKSCA joined the Kelowna Bonsai Club today for a wonderful display of bonsai trees as well as our calligraphy demonstrations and the sale of origami and other Japanese items. Northwood was also kind enough to provide us with an amazing lunch ❤️ Thank you to all of you that attended today 🙏🙏

Maya went on an adventure with the guide of Kazuo san, she says she is extremely grateful for the opportunity to explore the ceramic city of Seto and for Kazuo san showing her around. The cat museum was so interesting and Maya got the opportunity to paint her own ceramic cat. Next they went to a cultural center of a ceramic shop that has been passed down three generations! Thank you Kazuo san for showing Maya the city of Seto!

I SAY HELLO

In honor of the Kelowna-Kasugai Sister City Association's 45th anniversary, a special commemorative quilt titled “I Say Hello” will be showcased at various locations throughout Kelowna. This quilt, a cherished gift from Naoko Hirano and the Kasugai Mothers Quilters in 1996, beautifully embodies the spirit of friendship and cultural exchange between Kasugai and Kelowna.

The quilt will be displayed next at the Kelowna Visitor Centre starting June 1, 2026. This is a piece of work you don’t want to miss!

Waiwai festival was a blast for our ambassador Maya Courtney, she played a game with Chubu Interact Club, helped with Sabotan dance group 🌵 as well as meeting important members of Kasugai! Thank you to the Girl Scouts of Kasugai for allowing Maya try whisking matcha, it was delicious!!

The Kelowna Bonsai Club invites you to a bonsai display at Northwood Retirement Resort, located at 1277 Gordon Drive, Kelowna, B.C., on Saturday, May 30th. The event coincides with Northwood's open house, scheduled from 11 am to 1 pm. We look forward to seeing you there.
