Join us in welcoming seven students from Kasugai at the end of March 2027. We are looking for host families who can host a student from Monday, March 22nd 2:00 PM to March 27th 6:00 AM. This coincides with SD23's spring break; every day will be filled with activities for the students, and we encourage host families to join when they can.

Shared host family activities will happen on Good Friday (March 26th), and we will work together to find time for additional host family free time.

Please, if you are interested in hosting a student, send Maya an email at [email protected] with details about your household, such as pets, household members, and location, so that the association can work to match you with the perfect student.

Message from Tyson:

They say people in Japan are very polite, well I certainly would agree. The time I spent with my host family was unique, and something not many people have the opportunity to do. My host family was welcoming, very kind, and loved to chat about things we all have in common. I am so grateful for the delicious meals, hospitality, and allowing me to make my time in Japan that much better! So, thank you to the Kato family

Message from Alden:

What I loved most about Japan was seeing all the culture there. It was so much fun to see the Samurai Museums with my host family, the Kondos, and try the unique Japanese style Unagi at the beautiful restaurants. It was spectacular when we to the Summer Festival and saw the Kasugai Scouts fire juggling and lots of fireworks! I am so glad I got to go, and would definitely recommend it to others.

The Venturers were in Japan during the national Sumo tournament and learned a lot about the historical and spiritual components of Sumo. The group was able to have a very interesting cultural experience at a Sumo training stable. It was very cool how close we were to these powerful wrestlers.

July 27 to 28, back together as a single group, the scouts headed to Nagoya. We visited Nagoya castle with several Kasugai scouts, and checked out Oasis 21 after sunset.

July 20 to 22, we went camping with the Kasugai scouts. It was hot and exhausting, but worth every moment. Highlights included a hike to the top of Murodō mountain, where we each carried a stone to the top to help the mountain someday be taller than Fuji.

The Scouts have now returned from their trip to Japan. Over the next few days we are going to show you some of their adventures and then we will hear first hand from some of the scouts on their time in Kasugai.

July 18 - 20, we spent the first few days in Inuyama. We did a tour of Inuyama castle and the local town. The next day we rafted the river, which was a great bonding experience between the Canada and Japan scouts (working together to not drown).

Maya returned from her exchange a week ago and has been working on getting her sleep schedule back to normal. She wanted to share some photos of her final weeks in Kasugai as well as express her deepest gratitude for the past four months. The following is a message from Maya Courtney:

These past four months have been a whirlwind; every day was a new adventure and an opportunity to learn something new. I cannot believe how fast my exchange went by; it seemed just a couple of weeks ago I had arrived at Nagoya Station. Some key highlights of my trip were teaching English to students, exploring Aichi Prefecture, and the quality time spent with my host families. I am grateful to everyone who took the time to show me parts of their culture, and I truly hope that one day I can return the favour. I want to say a big thank you to the Kelowna-Kasugai Sister City Association for helping me and to the City of Kasugai for hosting me.
