Meet Crime Stoppers President Bruce Baron

Bruce's commitment to public safety began in high school, when he reflected on what mattered most to him and how he could make a difference in his community. That passion led him to a 25-year career with the RCMP, where he served in roles including general duty, investigations, crime prevention, and the drug squad.

Bruce has also held leadership positions with crime prevention and Crime Stoppers organizations across B.C. and Western Canada. After joining the Central Okanagan Crime Stoppers Society Board in 2025, he was elected President in 2026.

Throughout his career, Bruce has seen how information from the public can help solve crimes and keep communities safe. His message is simple: If you know something, say something. Crime Stoppers offers a safe, anonymous way to report information, and tipsters may be eligible for a cash reward.

Copper wire theft and energy theft are not victimless crimes. Stealing from electrical infrastructure can create serious safety hazards, including the risk of electrical shock, fires, and damage to critical equipment. Theft and vandalism of electrical cables can also disrupt essential services and leave infrastructure unusable for the people who rely on it. These incidents have resulted in substantial repair costs across British Columbia.

Offenders often target electrical cables for their copper content, but the consequences go far beyond the value of the metal. Tampering with energized equipment puts everyone at risk, including the individuals committing the theft, utility workers, and the public.

If you witness suspicious activity around power infrastructure, utility sites, or EV charging stations, report it anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
