In BC, if you have reason to believe a child has or is being abused or neglected, you have a legal duty to report it. Call 1-800-663-9122, available 24/7. If a child is in immediate danger, call 911.

This 90-minute workshop is for service providers working with children or youth. Key learnings include understanding the signs + symptoms of abuse, supporting a disclosure of abuse, making a report and supporting yourself throughout the process.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Here’s a peek inside one of our play therapy rooms at the CYAC, a welcoming space where children can express their feelings through play and feel supported.

The table in the centre of the room? It’s actually a sand tray! With support from a trained clinician, children can use sand and miniature figures to express thoughts and feelings that may be difficult to put into words.

Caring for mental health means meeting people where they are at. For young children (and adults, too), that can start with play. Play therapy is one of many approaches our team uses to support children in their mental health and healing. 💙

When a child discloses that they have experienced abuse, the response matters. 💙

At the CYAC, each child’s safety, comfort, and wellbeing guide our response. We bring professionals together in a welcoming space purpose-built for children and youth, helping reduce the stress of investigations and coordinating wrap-around support services for survivors and their families, from trauma through to healing.

We’re one of 50 Child & Youth Advocacy Centres operating or in development across Canada, and a member of the BC Network of Child & Youth Advocacy Centres . Together, we’re working to ensure every child receives a response that puts their needs first.
