Every message, share, and donation helps make counselling more accessible for people who might otherwise struggle to reach support.

At Connect Counselling & Therapy Society, we see every day how life can shift when someone is finally met with safety, understanding, and professional care and your support helps make that possible.

Parenting can be rewarding, but it can also be challenging. That’s why we’re offering a weekly Parenting Workshop where parents and caregivers can come together to learn, connect, and find support.

This drop-in group provides a welcoming space to share experiences, build practical parenting skills, and connect with others navigating similar challenges. Topics include building secure attachment, turning conflict into cooperation, managing screen time, and prioritizing parent self-care. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask a Registered Counsellor questions about your family’s unique needs.

Join us every Tuesday from 9:00–10:00 AM at Connect Counselling (4-1890 Cooper Road).

To learn more, contact us at [email protected] or call 250-860-3181.

We’d love to see you there.

Today, the Supreme Court of Canada made a landmark decision that could help survivors of intimate partner violence access greater justice and recognition under the law.

In Ahluwalia v. Ahluwalia, the Court recognized a new tort (civil wrong) of intimate partner violence.

The decision acknowledges that intimate partner violence is often rooted in coercive control and disproportionately harms women.

In simple terms, survivors now have a new legal avenue to seek compensation in civil court for harms caused by coercive control and ongoing abuse in relationships. Coercive control refers to patterns of behaviour used to dominate, isolate, intimidate or control another person over time.

The Court recognized that abuse is not always physical. It can include:

- intimidation
- isolation
- surveillance
- humiliation
- manipulation
- financial control
- sexual coercion
- patterns of ongoing domination and fear

This matters because many survivors live through abuse that may not leave visible injuries, but still causes deep and lasting harm.

This is an important step forward in recognizing the realities many survivors have long experienced and spoken about.

Everyone please welcome Lauryn! ☀️

Lauryn has joined Connect Counselling to complete her practicum as she finishes her Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology. She attended UBC Okanagan to complete her Bachelor of Science in Psychology and brings a background in Behaviour Intervention, with a focus on emotion regulation, boundary setting, and communication.

Born and raised in Kelowna, BC, Lauryn is a big fan of summer sunshine. Outside of the office, you’ll likely find her at the beach with her dog or relaxing on a patio with an iced latte in hand. ☀️🐾☕️

🔴 Red Dress Day- MMIWG2S+

Today, we wear red in recognition of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People
Red Dress Day serves as a solemn reminder of the profound loss experienced by Indigenous families and communities, and the ongoing need for awareness, justice, and meaningful action.

By wearing red, we acknowledge the individuals who are missing, honour the lives taken, and affirm our commitment to supporting safety, equity, and dignity for Indigenous women, girls, and Two-Spirit people.

We stand in solidarity, we remember, and we reinforce the call for lasting change.

💜 Prevention of Violence Against Women Week
April 19–25, 2026

This week, we stand with communities across B.C. and Canada to say NO MORE — no more silence, no more stigma, no more violence.

In Canada, a woman is killed by an intimate partner approximately every 6 days. Together, we can change this.

Throughout this week, organizations are leading “Purple for Prevention” initiatives, training, and education to support survivors and prevent violence before it starts.

💜 How you can show support:
• Wear purple
• Speak up and challenge harmful norms
• Share resources and raise awareness
• Support survivors with compassion
• Encourage others to seek help

Let’s remove stigma, amplify survivors’ voices, and commit to a future free from domestic and sexual violence.

Together, we say NO MORE💜
