⭐ Volunteers are the cornerstone of ALS Society of BC, and once a month we shed a light on those who have gone above and beyond for our community. ⭐

Our "Volunteer in the Spotlight" for August is Kathy Ostrowercha, whose support of the ALS Society spans decades.

When Kathy’s boss, George “Sonny” Williams, was diagnosed with ALS in 1989 she joined family, friends, and colleagues in organizing fundraisers to support the cause. Long after Sonny’s passing in 1996, Kathy continues his legacy by fundraising and volunteering for the ALS Society.

While her support over the years has come in many forms, from organizing events to assisting with administrative tasks at the office, one accomplishment Kathy is especially proud of is helping to raise funds for our Patient Services Programs.

For her, the greatest reward comes from seeing the impact of these efforts firsthand. Hearing the stories shared at past Caregivers Days reinforces how vital the Society’s programs and services are to individuals and families affected by ALS.

Her message to anyone considering volunteering is simple: start small, get involved, and discover where your skills can make a difference

Every contribution, no matter how big or small, has the power to positively impact someone’s life. ❤️
