This Father’s Day, we are reflecting on the beautiful, diverse ways the spirit of fatherhood shows up in our lives. It lives in fathers and grandfathers who share wisdom across generations, the uncles who offer a listening ear, the mentors who champion our career growth, and the friends who stand by us through thick and thin.

To anyone who has ever played that nurturing role: thank you. Your encouragement is a gift.

Wishing you a very Happy Father’s Day filled with joy, appreciation, and the recognition you truly deserve.🌟

Liz’s story reflects what SHINE (Seniors Housing Information & Navigation Ease) is all about. Our Seniors Housing Navigator provides individualized services for seniors 60+ years of age in Kelowna & region who are experiencing homelessness or precarious housing. It can help:

🔹Register for BC Housing resources
🔹Apply for social and rental housing
🔹Apply for Shelter Aid for Elderly Renters
🔹Secure government income assistance

… and assist with other services to make your housing journey easier. Last year, SHINE supported 308 seniors and helped 94 clients secure new rental housing. We also provided $24,000 in direct support for essentials like damage deposits, moving costs, and first month’s rent.

Behind every number is a senior finding safety, stability, and hope.

This program is supported by Seniors Services Society of British Columbia and Reaching Home: Canada’s Homelessness Strategy.

If you or someone you know is struggling with housing, SHINE is here to help. Visit our website to learn more: https://tinyurl.com/3f77jjk8

Every senior deserves to feel safe, respected, and valued. Yet elder abuse remains one of the most underreported issues affecting seniors today.

This World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, the 2026 theme, “Beyond Awareness: Making Elder Abuse Prevention Work,” challenges us to do more than recognize the problem. It calls on all of us to take action and create communities where older adults are protected, supported, and empowered. Learn more about this day: https://tinyurl.com/yc5ybjss

Prevention starts with connection. A simple phone call, a visit, checking in on a neighbour, or helping someone access support can make a meaningful difference in a senior's life.

At Seniors Outreach, we're committed to helping seniors stay connected, informed, and supported through programs such as Aging in Motion, Better at Home, Information & Navigation Supports, Community Connector, Digital Coaching for Seniors, and the Seniors Activity Centre. Together, these programs help reduce isolation, strengthen community connections, and support seniors in maintaining their independence and well-being.

Everyone deserves to feel seen, valued, and welcomed for who they are.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the seniors in the 2SLGBTQIA+ community whose experiences, resilience, and contributions have helped shape a more inclusive world. Their stories remind us that it's never too late to live authentically, build meaningful connections, and find a sense of belonging.

We stand with 2SLGBTQIA+ seniors and allies as we continue building a community where everyone belongs. We believe everyone deserves to age with dignity, respect, and acceptance, and that creating spaces where people feel safe to be themselves benefits us all.

Happy Pride Month! 🌈

📣 B.C. Seniors’ Week 2026 is officially here! (June 1 to June 7). This is our time to celebrate the seniors who continue to shape British Columbia through their wisdom, leadership, and everyday contributions that strengthen our communities. We honour that impact by creating more connection, support, and belonging for seniors across our community through our programs and services.

There are many ways to get involved, whether you prefer one-on-one connection, practical hands-on support, or sharing your skills behind the scenes.

You can help by:
🔹 Building connection through friendly visits and meaningful interaction
🔹 Supporting independence with everyday tasks and transportation
🔹 Assisting with home support, grocery shopping, and deliveries
🔹 Facilitating our social recreation programs

For many of us, a trip to the store or a visit with a friend is just a quick drive away. But for many seniors facing barriers like mobility, income, or health concerns, a lack of reliable transportation can be the difference between staying connected and feeling isolated.

Our Aging in Motion program bridges this gap by offering FREE, reliable transportation support to seniors (65+) across the Central Okanagan. Whether it’s getting to a medical appointment, picking up groceries, or joining in on a fun community outing, we’re here to make it easier.

In 2025, the program expanded its transportation support, providing over 1,700 rides and ensuring better access to essential services and community activities. This program is funded by the Government of British Columbia and managed by the United Way BC.
