The Hidden Cost of Summer

The cost of summer isn’t always obvious.
-The extra grocery trips.
-The fuel costs.
-The pressure to say “yes” to every activity.
-The childcare shuffle.
-The back-to-school purchases that start earlier every year.

Financial confidence in the summer might look like:
☀️ Packing lunches instead of eating out
☀️ Finding free activities- Music in the Park, bike riding, reading at the beach, camping instead of staying at a hotel, growing your own food
☀️ Starting a small savings goal
☀️ Saying “no” without guilt
☀️ Feeling more in control of your finances

At Launch Okanagan, we believe financial wellness doesn’t have to look perfect to matter. Every small step toward stability, confidence, and reduced stress creates ripple effects for individuals, families, and communities.

🎙️ Podcast Alert!!

Money conversations are changing- and honestly, it’s refreshing!

Because Money Podcast is helping shift the focus away from “perfect” financial advice and toward something more real: the everyday experiences behind our money habits, stress, relationships, and goals.

We strongly believe financial confidence isn’t built through perfection. It’s built through support, understanding, and small steps forward. Money isn’t just math. It’s personal.

Victoria Day weekend is a time when many of us come together, with family, friends, and our community.

It’s also a moment to reflect. The holiday traces back to Queen Victoria, whose long reign saw Canada grow and evolve into what it is today.

That growth continues- through the strength of our communities.

When one person gains financial confidence, it doesn’t just impact them. It supports their family, reduces stress, and creates ripple effects that reach far beyond.

That’s why we work alongside local partners across the Okanagan, to make financial education and support accessible, welcoming, and judgment-free.

Strong communities are built through support, connection, and opportunity and it starts with one step.

As we head into Mother’s Day, a thought many people share- what I wish I knew about money before becoming a parent!

Truthfully, financial confidence isn’t something we’re born with. It’s something we learn… and something we pass on.

Small habits can make a big difference:
• Talking openly about money
• Building a simple budget
• Taking small steps toward saving

It doesn’t have to be perfect. It just has to start.

We’re here to help, through free programs and one-on-one coaching, in a space that’s supportive and judgment-free.

Planning for your child’s future can feel overwhelming, but you don’t have to do it alone.

In Canada, there are government programs designed to help families save for education, even if you’re starting small.

Here are two important ones to know:
✔️ Canada Education Savings Grant (CESG):
The government matches a portion of what you contribute to an RESP.
✔️ Canada Learning Bond (CLB):
Provides money for education savings, even if you’re not able to contribute yourself.

You don’t have to have it all figured out.
Starting small and knowing what’s available can make a big difference over time. If you’re curious about how this works, we’re here to help:

This Earth Week, we’re reminded that small, intentional choices can make a big difference- for the planet and for our finances.

Simple habits like using what you already have, reducing waste, and being mindful with spending can help stretch your budget while supporting a more sustainable future.

It's not about being perfect.
It’s about taking small steps that feel realistic and manageable.

Small changes. Stronger future. 🌱

Financial literacy is evolving, and so is the conversation around money.

In Keeping Finance Personal, Canadian author Ellyce Fulmore challenges the traditional “one-size-fits-all” approach to money. Instead, she encourages readers to ditch the “shoulds” and the shame, and rewrite their own money story.

This non-traditional perspective highlights something often overlooked, our financial behaviours are shaped by identity, mental health, trauma, and lived experience.

It's a thoughtful shift toward a more inclusive, human-centered approach to financial wellbeing.

This book is firmly on our “good to read” list, especially for those looking to better understand the real relationship people have with money. Tell us what you thought, if you've read it.
