On October 23rd, four representatives from our Institute attended the Area Annual General Meeting in Brighton, which encompassed Northumberland, Hastings, Prince Edward, and Peterborough. We gained insight into various events undertaken by different institutes over the past year, provincial board initiatives, and other areas, while also paying tribute to members who passed away this year. Additionally, we listened to an informative presentation by the Grandmother's Advocacy Network, a local group in Brighton, focusing on Child Hunger.
The luncheon was delicious, and our conversations with fellow members from other groups were engaging.
The North Shore Women's Institute continually seeks new members. Our mission revolves around participating in activities that facilitate knowledge, sharing, community care, and learning. Interested individuals are invited to contact Marg Burrett at

On Tuesday, October 15th many WI members came together for the Trent Valley Area Women's Institute 97th Annual Convention. It was held at the Keene United Church on a lovely fall day. Many thanks to Cathy Wood and Sarah Nelson for setting up, Three Roads Farms for catering, Michelle Phillippi, President of FWIO, for updating us on provincial happenings, Tina Benson for teaching us some relaxation and team building activities, Bonnie Clark, Deputy Mayor of Otonabee South Monaghan and Warden of Peterborough County, for her interesting talk and to Peterborough Area WI members who helped organize the tables, drinks and food.
Our theme this year was W.O.W. We are Women of Wonder, Work, Warmth, Words, Worldly Knowledge, Wisdom, Wit, Worth. What is your W.O.W.?
If you ever feel the Women's Institute would be a group you'd be interested in please reach out to Marg Burrett 705-295-4728. Our local North Shore WI meets monthly and takes part in many interesting activities.

The North Shore Women's Institute is sponsoring a talk by Elwood Jones on the Peter Robinson Settlement in Peterborough County. Professor Jones is a Professor Emeritus of History at Trent University and an archivist at Trent Valley Archives. He will be describing the fascinating story of Peter Robinson's work in organizing the migration and settlement to Peterborough County of immigrants from Ireland in 1825. Under Robinson's supervision, free rations were distributed, cabins erected and approximately 2,000 settlers successfully established on land in the Peterborough region. This year, the 200th anniversary of Peter Robinson's work is being celebrated throughout the county.
