All Voices Community Choir

All Voices Community Choir All Voices Community Choir is a non- auditioned, multi-generational community choir in Ottawa, Canada. The Junior Choir rehearse every Wednesday evening.

The All Voices Community Choir, formerly known as the Goulbourn Jubilee Singers, was founded in 1977, by enthusiastic, music-loving people from the Stittsville, Ontario area and welcomes anyone who enjoys singing. There are no auditions, and sight-reading ability is not required. We strive to learn good quality choral repertoire, and to perform it to the best of our abilities, but always having fu

n along the way! The Junior Youth Choir began in September 2000 to encourage interest and involvement in choral singing with the younger singers in our community. Their fine voices and energy have made them a welcome extension of the established adult choir. The choir typically performs two major concerts per year and will also sometimes do additional performances in the community. Our Junior Choir also participates in an annual school tour, which gives them a wonderful opportunity to share their skills with their peers. Over the years, the choir has enjoyed showcasing a variety of themes and productions, from classical to musical theatre to folk and pop. Recent concerts have included an all-Canadian folk show, music about colours, nature and environment, anti-bullying and inclusion, big screen little screen featuring music from movies and television, multi-cultural themes, and so much more. Children ages 8 to 16 who love to sing are welcome to join our Junior Choir, No audition is required, but the Director asks that the children be able to read, and that they have the personal focus and concentration skills to participate positively in a one-hour rehearsal. Membership in the junior choir requires a commitment to attend weekly rehearsals and to perform with the group. Our teen members (grade 7+) have the opportunity to stay on for an additional 30 min to work with the teen ensemble. Some of our teen members also have chosen to stay on and work with the adults, and we do have some older teens and young adults who enjoy participating in the teens along with the adults. Our family of choirs is very welcoming and open to offering many options to our singers. The Adult choir rehearses every Wednesday evening (September through May) at Glen Cairn United Church, 140 Abbeyhill Drive, Ottawa, ON K2L 1H5

Although we are grateful for the hospitality of the congregation for rehearsal space, we are not a church-affiliated choir. Youth / Teen : 5:45-6:45 ( teens grade 7+ stay on until 7:15)
Adults : 7:30-9:30

The choir is also a proud member of Choirs Ontario.

Video footage (raw and unedited at this point in time) from our last concert with The Garfunkels is now live on the AVCC blog! Give it a listen - you might just find yourself singing along as both directors Mathieu and Linda teach the audience one of the songs in their repertoire!

Our concert last night in Vilnius was our best one yet! The Garfunkels were so terrific…we loved their repertoire and have been passing notes to Linda on our favourites for future consideration! The church was packed, too - there are 400 seats, plus additional chairs were brought in for those too late to get a seat! Their enthusiasm was palpable.

The best part was when the Canadian Ambassador to Lithuania announced herself as an alto with The Garfunkels! She later said that many diplomats end up joining choirs in Europe as it is a great way to make friends. Music really does bring people together!

Our final concert with The Garfunkels last night was held in the incredible Church of St. Catherine in Vilnius. The current design dates from the mid-1700s though it was damaged during the 1812 French invasion of Russia and again in WW2. Though not as old as the church we sang in at Riga, it is certainly the most picturesque!

Time sure goes by quickly when you're having fun! We are now in Vilnius after a quiet day driving southeast across Lithuania, and have time to relax before our concert with The Garfunkels. This will be our last concert of the tour, followed by a day of sightseeing before we all head our separate ways. What a magical ride it's been!

We are on the road today to our final destination, Vilnius, which takes about 4 hours. Last night’s mass and concert went smashingly well. We attended the mass at the Catholic Church in Nida on the Curonian Spit which was very modern - only about 20 years old. Nick played the organ during the mass while we sat at the back. We sang two pieces - Ispiciwin and The Ground, and the congregation clapped after we sang The Ground.

This was a sign of things to come as we sang to a packed church at our concert at 7:00. Our tour guide, Christupas, is from Lithuania, and he translated each song’s introduction from Linda and Nick into the local language. There were a lot of smiling faces during the show, and at the end we got a standing ovation! Linda asked us to sing Vive le Canadienne, a jaunty tune that had the audience clapping along during the chorus. We got ANOTHER standing ovation, and even some cheers! It was an amazing feeling to have brought joy to so many people…one of the reasons for the tour!

Yesterday started out with near-disaster when high winds shut down the hotel elevators for about 30 minutes, and most of us were on floors 6 to 13. Although we could take the stairs down, we couldn’t go up to get our gear for our outing as the stairs were locked, and the high winds and rains threatened our expedition to the Curonian Spit. However, our outing ended up being delayed instead of cancelled, and we caught the ferry across to the spit around 10:30. One of our stops was the Hill of Witches, a forest trail filled with wooden carvings of devils, witches and other fanciful beings.

Yesterday was a travel day with stops at Rundale Palace and the Hill of Crosses. At Rundale we got a taste of 18th century life (if you were lucky enough to be one of the Baltic Dukes or Duchesses or related to Peter the Great). We had to don blue shoe covers to protect the floor while we were given the grand tour.

At the Hill of Crosses we were informed how the crosses were placed there to represent lost family members who were banished to Siberia. Theses aren’t grave markers, but rather symbols of lost loved ones. We met a contingent of Czech soldiers there who were quite friendly!

From there it was on to Klaipeda.
