I feel this to my core today.
It’s not just society. It’s school. Work. Government systems. Legal systems.
Counselling. Supports. Friendships. Relationships. All the things!

I do not believe that this funding model will successfully support all children. I don’t trust the system that is being outlined right now. Do I believe that there will ever be a perfect system? No. Do I believe that we need to learn whatever system is put into place so that we can help families access support? Yes. Can we learn the system and work with it but also push back an advocate for change? What are your thoughts? Share below 👇

Families are so stressed right now. Mine included ❤️

Is there any interest in a virtual based “Funding Changes Parent & Caregiver Support Circle”?

A space to:
• Connect with other families and remember you’re not alone.
• Share ideas and brainstorm ways we’re supporting our families while also protecting our own mental health.
• Validate each other’s concerns, fears, and experiences.
• Discuss how we might navigate life as funding changes unfold, regardless of where we are in the approval process.
• Give and receive support from people who truly understand.

This would not be a space for advocacy, agendas, or detailed discussions about policy changes. There are other places for that.

The goal would simply be real-time support, connection, and encouragement for parents and caregivers navigating these challenges together.

Diversified Family Supports Society programs are offered on a pay-what-you-can basis. As a registered charity, we rely on donations and community support to help cover program costs and expand our services. We are committed to accessibility, and no one will be turned away due to financial circumstances.

Would this be something you’d be interested in?

And update with the new funding changes ❤️
Edit:
Please try not to stress or panic (impossible I know - but let me try to offer some reprieve) - we are still fighting and asking for clarity as we learn to navigate the system that’s coming in.
We are in this together. We will all support each other. The society will support families through this transition as well once we know more and have better direction.
Even with changes and no matter what the outcome is here… Neurodivergent parents and caregivers are warriors at learning how to navigate systems! 😉

A gentle reminder about an upcoming letter from MCFD. Feel free to scroll past if you are not able to process this information right now:

Starting Wednesday, families should begin receiving a letter via the AFU Family Services Portal, email, or mail. The letter is expected to ask families to upload assessments via a new portal.

We have some open questions about how the data will be used and whether the request fits within FIPPA's limits on what government can collect.

It is hard to say before actually seeing the letter whether this is the case. We're tracking it closely and will keep you posted. We have asked government directly and are waiting to hear back.

Please know that we are not encouraging or discouraging anyone from submitting documents. We want you to have the facts so you can decide what feels right for your own family.

If we feel the letter potentially violates FIPPA, we will be filing individual complaints with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) and we are happy to help anyone who wants to do the same.

Letters like this can cause stress, overwhelm, or even grief. Please be gentle with yourself.

Our advocacy will continue. The push for inclusion is not over.

Please reach out if you have any questions, concerns, or need support. You are not alone in this.

Most people are not struggling because they are “weak” or “lazy”.

They are exhausted from the constant battle inside their own mind.

Thoughts like:

“I always mess things up”
“Nobody cares”
“If I fail once, I am a failure”
“Everything will go wrong”

These thinking patterns can quietly damage confidence, relationships, mental health and daily life - especially for children, teenagers and people living with anxiety, trauma or stress.

Once you learn to spot cognitive distortions, you start to realise how many people are fighting invisible battles every single day.

This is the kind of information every school, parent, professional and young person should understand.

Share this because someone you know may need to hear that their thoughts are not always facts.
