Much gratitude today and everyday to Phyllis Webstad and others like her who help us learn from the mistakes of the past. We are heartened by our community coming together to wrap support around the people in the Secwepemcúl̓ecw who continue to be affected by the ongoing colonization of this land and its people. 1 in 3 youth who come to A Way Home Kamloops looking for housing are under the age of 19.

For these young people, finding safe and appropriate supported housing can be incredibly difficult.

When A Way Home Kamloops conducted the Youth Homeless Count in 2018, 150 young people under 24 were identified as needing housing. Since then, Kamloops has seen a 117% increase in the number of people experiencing homelessness.

Today, we estimate that more than 100 young people under 19 are in need of a safe place to call home.

This is the gap we need to close.

As we mark the 10th Anniversary of Campout to End Youth Homelessness, you can help us create a community where every young person has access to safe, stable and appropriate housing.

This year at Campout, we’re raising funds to create safe, supportive housing for young people under 19 who have nowhere else to turn.

This program will provide more than a roof. It will offer 24/7 on-site support, culturally safe services that honour the needs of Indigenous youth, life-skills training to help young people build confidence and independence, and strong connections to community that create a lasting safety net of support—meeting each young person exactly where they’re at.

You can help make this possible. On December 4, campers will spend a night outdoors to raise awareness and funds for youth who deserve a safe place to call home.
