We hope everyone had a restful holiday season, after our very successful fall fundraising dinner in November our volunteers took some well deserved time off with their families. Today I want to share a bit of our chapters history including the results of our communities hard work and participation to support our wetlands.

The Kamloops Chapter of Ducks Unlimited was put together in 1983. In the following 42 years, we have involved over 100 community individuals in our fundraising efforts and put over $750,000 into wetland conservation projects in Canada.

Besides our hallmark Fall Fundraiser, we have held Ladies Fundraisers, Sponsor dinners, Sporting Clay shoots, Sealed Bid Auctions, Sportsman’s Bashes and a couple of major raffles during the covid years. We also had a presence at the Kamloops Gun Show and the Kamloops Home Show. Chapter members were instrumental in initiating the Provincial Art Program and Sporting Clays in the Province.

A highlight was our Greenwing Day which we carried on for years after the program was disbanded nationally. The Greenwing day was not a fundraiser, but a day dedicated to getting some hands-on experiences in the wetlands for youths. We had up to 90 kids take part with 40 adults providing age-appropriate
activities ranging from bird house building to fly tying, gold panning, archery, critter dipping and clay bird shooting. We even had a helicopter tour of Kamloops for a couple of lucky kids some years. One of my personal favourites was when came out to educate us about their work and demonstrate the skills of their K9's!

Our most recent fundraiser was held Nov. 15th of 2024. At that dinner, we were able to recognize Barry Corbet for 41 years of volunteer service, as well as his wife, Beverly Corbet, for 25 years and Heather Warner for her 10 years. We netted over‼️$37,000 ‼️ for Ducks Unlimited Canada – our most successful event in our 42 years.

Thank you Kamloops and our Chapter Members. None of this work would be possible without our community.
