Team work in the yard last week. The Beehive children joined in cleaning up an area of our yard while The Saskatoon berries were busy in another.
While raking the leaf pile from under our plastic pool we found some creatures. Many worms and a spider, we had thoughtful conversations during this process. We talked about where we should move the worms to keep them safe, after some discussion the children decided the garden would be the best place. It took a few minutes for the children to be ready to put them down, as we watched them wiggle into the dirt the children said things like “they’re sticky” “I want to find more worms!”. As well as “that hurts” while we talked about how worms can get sunburns too.
We also spoke about taking care of the land, one child asked if we were “brushing” it. The connection made between brushing our hair to take care of ourselves and raking the grass in our yard was very thoughtful.
While we cleaned up this area The Saskatoon berries were busy collecting and moving all the leaves out of our creek for spring. The children added lots of the leaves to the gardens for fertilizer and then were using them in their play. They worked hard moving them in buckets and wheelbarrows all over the yard. 🪱🕷️🍂
