A New Space for Youth in Downtown Kamloops 🌟

We’re grateful to have been invited to the Foundry Kamloops Open House at 540 Seymour Street, a welcoming and inclusive space for youth ages 12–24.

The tour gave us an opportunity to learn more about the space, the vision for the centre, the intentional and inclusive planning around the design, and the services that will be offered to young people in Kamloops.

It was also a great opportunity to meet fellow community and partner organizations and learn more about the work happening to strengthen youth services in our community.

Congratulations to the Foundry Kamloops team and to Interior Community Services on this important addition to downtown Kamloops! 🎉

🌱 Recovery doesn’t have to happen alone.

Nicola Valley Enhanced Supportive Recovery (NVESR) is a 90-day early recovery program at Juniper House in Merritt, registered through the Ministry of Health’s Assisted Living Registry.

The program provides a holistic recovery environment with 24/7 wraparound supports and an easy referral process, including self-referrals. Five days of abstinence is required before entering the program.

⚠️ Drug Alert –Merritt⚠️

A drug alert has been issued for Merritt.Light green chunks, pebbles, and powder have been identified.

Cychlorphine is a potent synthetic opioid. It is thought to be approximately 10x the strength of fentanyl and longer lasting. Medetomidine is a very strong non-opioid tranquilizer - much stronger than xylazine (approximately 200x). It can be potentially dangerous to the heart. Cychlorphine, fluorofentanyl, medetomidine, and benzodiazepines can slow or stop breathing, leading to life-threatening effects. Nausea, vomiting, and sweating are also possible.

We urge folks to prioritize safety and take the following precautions:
• Get your drugs checked using test strips or local services
•Know the risks when mixing drugs
• Use at an OPS/SCS site or with someone you trust.
• Use with others around and use one person at a time so someone can respond to overdose if needed.
• Carry naloxone and know how to use it

💜 International Overdose Awareness Day

International Overdose Awareness Day (IOAD) is a global day to remember those who have lost their lives to the toxic drug crisis, support those who are grieving, and raise awareness about toxic drug poisoning prevention and response.

This day also highlights the importance of reducing stigma, increasing understanding of harm reduction, and creating communities where people feel supported and able to access the help they need.

Communities across the region are coming together on August 31 with local events in Merritt and Penticton. See the posters for event details.

🌱 Summer Gardening at Fairhaven

Fairhaven participants are bringing the gardens to life this summer by caring for their own garden beds and helping maintain the shared outdoor spaces.

Participants are growing vegetables including peppers, onions, and lettuce, while also planting flowers and maintaining the flower beds.

The project helps create a welcoming space while giving participants an opportunity to contribute to a collective effort and take pride in the community they share.

Community members in Merritt gathered for Art & Snacks, a session of Art Therapy with Jennifer focused on fostering connection, creativity, and resilience.

Held at our 2196 Quilchena Avenue office, the session brought together flood-impacted community members for an opportunity to connect, create, and build resilience through art and conversation. The session focused on supporting community connection, emotional well-being, and resilience by providing a safe and welcoming space for participants to express themselves through creativity.

Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this experience meaningful. 💙

Links to Employment supports job seekers facing multiple barriers as they work toward meaningful vocational goals. The program provides individualized guidance while collaborating with existing recovery supports.

From April 2025 to March 2026, 53 program participants accessed support through Links to Employment, with participants engaging in employment, education, and volunteer or work experience opportunities.

✨ 68% were working
📚 42% were enrolled in education or training
🤝 34% were volunteering or participating in work experience
