Harm Reduction
The Society believes that harm reduction promotes and supports the health and well being of both individuals and communities. We believe that all humans have the right to comprehensive, non- judgmental services based on individual need. A big thank you to Canadian Tire for donating two life jackets and two water safety kits to the Maverick Supportive Recovery and Career Development Centre! 🛶

These donations will help create opportunities for participants to enjoy kayaking and time outdoors during the warmer months. We’re also grateful to Canadian Tire for being a supportive and inclusive employer and for working with our program participants.

What does housing really mean?

Housing is more than having a place to live. Different types of housing serve different purposes, from providing temporary shelter to offering longer-term, affordable housing or housing with additional supports.

This Homelessness Action Week (Oct 10-16, 2026), we’re sharing three things to help us better understand housing and the role it plays in people’s lives.

AIDS Walk 2026 ❤️

The rain didn’t stop 60+ staff, participants, community members, and allies from coming together on October 2nd to raise awareness and support people impacted by HIV/AIDS.

With roots in the AIDS Society of Kamloops, the annual AIDS Walk for Life is an important part of ASK Wellness Society’s history and the work we continue to do. The walk was wrapped up with a free community BBQ, sharing food, stories, and time together. 🍔

A special shout out to Cookie for making her famous relish and pickles once again. They were a hit, as always! Thank you to everyone who came out, walked with us, helped raise awareness, and stood alongside people impacted by HIV/AIDS. Your support means so much to our community. ❤️

As the fall weather settles in, we’re collecting warmer clothing and essentials to support community members.

Right now, we’re particularly in need of:

🧤 Gloves, toques, & cold-weather essentials
🥾 Winter boots
👖 Men’s pants, especially longer lengths
🧥 Shirts, hoodies, & warmer layers
👚 Women’s clothing, especially smaller sizes
🩲 Undergarments & clothing essentials

Clean, gently used or new items are always appreciated. Every donation helps make sure community members have access to the clothing and essentials they need. ❤️

⚠️ Drug Alert –Kamloops ⚠️

Interior Health has issued a drug alert for Kamloops. There is an increase in “down” samples containing high amounts of fentanyl or fentanyl analogues and/or medetomidine.

Samples have been found in various forms and colours, including chunks, pebbles, paste and granules, and may be sold as down, dope, tranq or fentanyl.

Medetomidine can slow breathing and heart rate, making overdoses more complex and prolonged. It may have serious effects on the heart. The combination of fentanyl, fentanyl analogues, medetomidine and benzodiazepine can lead to significant sedation. Sedation may last beyond administration of naloxone.

We urge folks to prioritize safety and take the following precautions:
• Get your drugs checked using test strips or local services
•Know the risks when mixing drugs
• Use at an OPS/SCS site or with someone you trust.
• Use with others around and use one person at a time so someone can respond to overdose if needed.
• Carry naloxone and know how to use it
• Start with a small amount and wait before taking more
• Space out doses and avoid mixing substances

Standing together for Truth and Reconciliation 🧡

Our ASK Wellness Society team came together in orange to honour the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation and show our support for Survivors, families, and communities impacted by residential schools.

At a time when our communities have experienced acts that seek to divide and create fear and doubt, our commitment to listening to Indigenous voices and honouring the truths of Survivors feels especially important. We stand with Tk’emlúps te Secwépemc and all other Indigenous territories and reaffirm our commitment to a community rooted in respect, inclusion, and understanding.

This work requires more than words or one day of recognition. We’re grateful to be part of a community that continues to learn, listen, and come together in support of Truth and Reconciliation.

National Day for Truth and Reconciliation 2026 🧡

September 30th is a day to honour Survivors, remember the children who never came home, and recognize the ongoing impacts of residential schools.

We invite our community to take time today to listen to Indigenous stories, attend local gatherings, learn, and reflect on how we can support reconciliation in our communities. True reconciliation demands continuous education, accountability, and active support within our shared work and daily lives.

We’re grateful to everyone who took the time to attend, connect with our team, and be part of reflecting on the impact of ASK Wellness Society over the past year.

At the AGM, we also shared our latest Impact Report and introduced our new Strategic Plan, which reflects where we’ve been and where we’re going. This plan will continue to guide us moving forward.
