ASK Wellness Society in Penticton was pleased to support the Project 529 initiative, a bike registration program operated in partnership with Penticton RCMP. A registration clinic was held to promote bike security, community safety, and stronger community connections. 🚲

snp̓aʔx̌tantn residents and staff participated in the on-site registration clinic, where bikes were securely added to the Project 529 database and residents received tamper resistant shield decals for added protection and identification support. The clinic also highlighted new Project 529 technology that helps detect stolen bikes online and support faster recovery efforts.

The event brought residents, community partners, and law enforcement together while reinforcing the importance of building safer communities through collaboration. 🙌

A milestone worth celebrating.

On May 15, the SUAP Peer Education Program, hosted in collaboration with Urban Matters, celebrated the graduation of 14 participants in Penticton. Over a six week period, individuals attended four training sessions per week, gaining skills, experience, and stronger connections through peer education.

We are excited to see program graduates continue supporting their communities through placements with host collaborative partners until June 2026. Congratulations to all participants on this achievement.

Summer is here, and so is the joy of getting our hands back in the soil. ☀️

Thanks to the plant donation from Garden Gate, CLP participants and staff at The Outlook in Kamloops came together to fill the garden boxes with tomatoes, peppers, squash, herbs, and more!

This was a great opportunity to build gardening skills, and grow connection, teamwork, and confidence along the way. 🌱

On May 9, the Pathways team joined neighbours and community partners at McArthur Island for Emergency Services Day in Kamloops.🚒

Our team enjoyed chatting with local first responders, checking out emergency vehicles, learning about FireSmart and pet safety, and gaining practical emergency preparedness tips.

Most importantly, it was an opportunity to come together in recognition of our local heroes. To all emergency responders and support staff, thank you for your dedication and service in keeping our community safe. 🙏

Thank you to Lana from Same Sky Collective for helping create the thank-you boards featured in this post 🎨

⚠️ Drug Alert –Kamloops ⚠️

Interior Heath has issued a drug alert for Kamloops and surrounding area. Purple/pink chunks/pebbles sold as down/dope/tranq/fentanyl were found to contain high amounts of medetomidine (16%) and fentanyl (29%). High risk of overdose and fatal overdose. Can cause dizziness, confusion, nausea, amnesia, sleepiness, and nodding out for a long time.

Medetomidine is a very strong non-opioid tranquilizer - much stronger than xylazine (200x).
It slows down breathing and heart rate and can make overdoses longer and more complicated. Medetomidine is potentially dangerous to the heart. The high amount of fentanyl increases risk of fatal overdose. The combination of fentanyl and medetomidine can lead to significant sedation. Overdose symptoms may last beyond administration of naloxone.

We urge folks to prioritize safety and take the following precautions:
• Get your drugs checked using test strips or local services
•Know the risks when mixing drugs
•Smoking is not safer than injecting, be cautious when smoking your drugs
• Use at an OPS/SCS site or with someone you trust.
• Use with others around and use one person at a time so someone can respond to overdose if needed.
• Carry naloxone and know how to use it
• Start with a small amount and wait before taking more
• Space out doses and avoid mixing substances

We offer anonymous drug checking in Kamloops (433 Tranquille), Merritt, Penticton, and Kelowna. Find a location near you:

Community, connection, and collaboration in action! 💙

As part of TELUS Days of Giving, TELUS partnered with ASK Wellness Society to host a community BBQ for The Crossroads residents.

Beyond the grill, the impact included:
✨52 care packages assembled for Crossroads residents.
💙150 kits created for the Mobile Health Clinic powered by TELUS Health for Good to support local outreach initiatives.

The Mobile Health Clinic provides accessible, trauma-informed primary care, mental health and addiction supports, wound care, harm reduction services, and referrals through regular outreach in Kamloops and twice-monthly visits to Merritt.

A big thank you to all the TELUS volunteers for making the day a success with good food, conversation, and a welcoming afternoon enjoyed by all.

Last week, we were happy to participate in Interior Health’s Mental Health & Substance Use Awareness Event at Royal Inland Hospital.

Alongside approximately 14 community organizations, we shared resources and information about our programs and services, all in support of Interior Health employees and their families.

With 1 in 5 Canadians experiencing a mental illness each year, events like this play an important role in raising awareness, reducing stigma, and connecting people to support. We’re grateful to be part of a community that shows up for one another.

Happy International Nurses Day to all the incredible nurses and healthcare workers who do this work every day 💚
