The Kamloops Food Policy Council (KFPC), established in 1995, is known for its ground breaking work in BC and Canada. The KFPC has spent over a decade advocating for the importance of public education on food security issues here and at the provincial and national levels. Food system projects like the Kamloops Community Gardens, Public Produce Gardens and Community Kitchens have been grown and su
pported by the Kamloops Food Policy Council's efforts. The success of the Kamloops Community Gardens is just one example of the KFPC's progressive, community-led initiatives. The Community Gardens have been in operation with the help of the City of Kamloops and through donations from service clubs and private citizens. Overall, the KFPC acts as an umbrella organization, providing an opportunity for project and advocacy groups to co-ordinate their food-security related work. Groups that work within the KFPC are:

The KFPC also acts as a forum where the experiences and insights derived from these grassroots projects can be discussed and framed as policies to be adopted by agencies, institutions and governments on all levels.
